Looking for some comments on this issue please...check engine light on so I hooked up my scanner and view code P1647...bank 2 sensor 1...air fuel ratio sensor...rather than changing this I decided to take the car to a reputable jag service (no dealer) with 28+ years experience to take care of this.

Spoke to him yesterday and..WOW...asks me if I had the car to a dealer for ECM updates...I said no I did not...than said the car has had no ECM updates and that needed to be done along with changing the sensor I mentioned along with the O2 sensor..mentioned the original type sensors were no longer available...the other two downstream sensors should be OK he said...I asked whats the damage...he said $900...OMG...I'm just having a hard time swallowing this...now my car is like my PC & needs critical updates...car was running fine..even with the check engine light on.

Looking for some techs advice here...should I just have swapped out the $75 - $130 sensor myself and cleared the code..or am I going the right direction by letting them change sensors & flash the ECM....P.S. car only has 30,000 miles on it...flawless ride...I am the second owner.
