Engine not starting
Uwonkunda, there are 2 things you need to check. The first is whether the ECU has power. This is easily done. Simply turn the ignition key to the first position and see if the check engine light comes on. If it does, then your ECU has power. If your ECU has power, then you need to check the following 2 fuses:
-F17 in the passenger bay fuse box
-F25 in the passenger bay fuse box
Either one of those blown will cause you not to be able to read the codes.
As for the engine not starting, check the obvious. Roll the key to the START position and then look down at the center console. If the red light on there? If yes, then you should also have a message on the instrument cluster saying "Security Fail". This is saying that the car cannot communicate with the key. Your problem is not the engine, but the security system. If you are not getting the red light, then let me know and we can take things from there.
