Engine runs loud/noisy and exhauxt smells
Good Day everyone. Just had an engine change in my 2002 jaguar x type from a 2.5l to 2003 3.0l engine. After the swap out the car ran and drove very hard or loud. there was also an exhaust stench that smell awful that prevented me from using my A/C. After careful diagnosis i observe from underneath the car that the manifold in the extreme front of the car that meets the catylst converter did not have a bolt in it. Can this be the reason am smelling the exhaust and hearing the loud noise.
thanks much for your quick reply.

thanks sidewalkman. but can you tell me how to access/reach that particular area. i attempted to remove the air intake breather inorder to reach the area where the front manifold bolts to the front catylst converter but had some trouble. Is there a technique to removing the air intake breather that sits atop the radiator or do i have to remove the radiator. Is there a step by step manual on this?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance

I'm not sure, if you download the JTIS (workshop manual in this forum) it will give you a step by step, I know there is a fascia type thing under the car to remove, or the rad if you want to access it from the top. I'm not sure, Thermo would know, leave this over night and he'll likely chime in.

Did anyone check to see if the catalytic converters are the same for a 2.5-3.0? If you burn out the cats it'll usually smell like rotten eggs and the car may not run too well either depending on how they melted. Sometimes they melt away leaving the exhaust open and sometimes they clog up the works.

The cats are the same. The only thing i need to know at this point is how do i access the front area where the front manifold meets the catlyst. Am thinking that my local mechanic neglected to insert a pipe gasket when at the point where they meet. From what i can observe from beneath the car, there appears to be a bolt missing at the connection point where the the manifold meets the cat. Do i need to remove the radiator , or is there a technique to remove the air intake hose.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
