Default Exhaust Tips

How would I go about shopping for exhaust tips? I just want a nice chrome tip, not the whole exhaust system. I don't know how to start looking for them due to dimensions and all of that.

I know Jim.logan just changed his to magnaflows, any suggestions Jim on what standards i must shop by?

Thanks in advanced!

Good question! Some bulkier chrome tips would look AWESOME!

hmm i like oval tips somewhat like the stock tips but with 3 or 3.5 inch outlet. I believe the stock ones are 2.5 inch outlet (oval) which in my opinion were much to small. I now have 3.5 inch rounds tips. I would not get a single wall tip because they are to thin and look inexpensive for jaguars. Make sure to look for some good stainless steel double walled tips. Whether you like oval or round, thats up to you. also i would get weld-on tips and have a muffler shop weld them on and it should not be to expensive. its just my preferance versus clamp on tips. any other questions feel free to ask!

Default Exhaust Tips

Gentlemen, MufflerMall.com and Assured Automotive have the same but larger tips as stock ($29- $49 each). Some are resonated (for more quietness and less hiss). The ovals that ours and Mercedes Benz use are called "stainless steel super ovals w/folded ends". Factory Jaguar and Mercedes are between $150 and $300 each.

yes make sure to get stainless steel because after about a month the chrome will rust.

Would this muffler fit our cars? http://www.mufflermall.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=141&product s_id=755

BuckMR2, The mufflers you have in a picture on this thread, https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=30832

Are those tips? or is it the whole deal? and what diameter are yours? weld ons? or clamps?

What are the benefits between welding and clamping?

The exhausts on my car were from here
http://www.mijperformance.com/exhaust-jaguar.html
They were custom made (even if 2 X-Types turn up each one will be different according to them) so each and every exhaust is custom made. They have a lifetime guarantee and were cheaper than Borla which I also considered but was swung on the exhaust being made for the individual car, the tips and the choice of sound.
You are asked how loud or quiet you want it on a sliding scale and how high/low you want the exhausts in relation to the bumper cutouts before they are welded into place.I chose the position to allow easy access for cleaning and they looked as good as new when I traded the car in 3 years or so later.
I went for the back boxes as I couldnt justify the huge extra cost getting them from the cat back and the tips were from a choice of over 40 which I thought looked best.Lots of comments at petrol stations and shows over the years and from an elderley French couple in France who didnt speak a word of English who struggled over to the car from across the road when I was parked....then again they probably hadnt seen a Jag as I only saw 1 other one in the week I was in france and it was 100s of miles away.
The disadvantage with the welding is its difficult to remove when selling and then get the old pipes on again at the right length.I gave up and traded it in with the quads.
Re the size I cant remember for sure but Im guessing at 75ml.
They did have the range listed on their old site

Pros of welding over clamp on is they won't fall off, shift or be stolen. Disadvantage is u need them torched off if u ever want to remove them

Buck, I've always loved the quad tips on your old car. They look aethetically perfect, IMO - the right diameter, nice detailing and shape, and fill the cavity very nicely. The fact they're better priced than the Borlas is a nice bonus.

I wish they could be ordered in the States. Reading through the web site link you sent, it seems the company needs your car in order to custom fabricate a muffler for it. I'd order them in a heartbeat otherwise.

I was checking out mina gallery and they have exhaust tips that resemble Borla exhaust tips for $135.00 http://www.minagallery.com/Merchant2...ct_Code=prx185

Should I just purchase actual Borla exhaust tips instead of mina galleries clone?

What inlet measurment should I go for? I'm a bit confused on how to properly shop for the right tip that would fit our stock exhausts.

Also, Jim, is it possible to get you to take a straight back shot of your exhaust so we can see how 3.5 oval exhaust tips look straight from the back instead of your angled, artistic, shot

Interesting. I noticed that the factory tips are welded on. So to swap them out, you'd have to remove the welding or cut them off and have the new ones installed. I wonder how much labor would cost for something like that? If it's over $100, you're pretty much at half the price of getting the bolt-on full Borla system.

I'd be inclined to just spend $250 more to get the full stainless exhaust system. It's bolt-on, so you could just swap it out in your driveway in a couple of hours.

jag x type, any oval tip that is 3 - 3.5 inches will work as well as a round tip. I would go for a 2.5 inch inlet but a 2.25 could work aswell depending the how good the muffler shop you go to is. Those guys can pretty much weld anything together. any other questions, feel free to ask.

I agree def stainless over chrome the other benefit of welding is you wont see nasty clamps like you have just crashed into halfords. i searched everywhere for a stainless trim for a lexus is 200 and found one at a kit car show , great find and looks very smart on the vehicle.

Thanks for the pictures jim! I'm really leaning into getting the round ones over the oval ones. The 3" round ones look real nice on our cars!!

Thanks again!
