exploding coil
The car is a 2002 Xtype 102,500 miles.I Had a coil explode and melted(it was a stock one or an older style). I replaced it with a newer style one and it exploded with in a couple days(I think it lasted two days). They were both in cylinder 6. Is there something that would cause this to happen? I dont want to put a new coil in it if its just going to happen again.
Fyi the other coils are good and they are still the older style.
The first two pics are the first older coil that was in the car when I got it.
The third and fourth pic are of the coil I replaced(the newer style).
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you

The photos show the coil is melted and the spark plug contact seriously compromised.
Two suggestions:
1. loose connection or open circuit in the coil harness / connector can cause the high voltage to arc inside the coil. This will short some of the windings together and the enormous heat will burn through the plastic coil body. Check the ignition wire continuity, condition of the wires and connectors.
2. if the coil to plug connection isn't good, it will arc between the coil and plug top every time the plug fires. Within a short period of time this will generate sufficient heat to melt the coil body to the point where it self destructs.
