Default Extended Warranties

Anyone have any recommendations on extended warranty programs? I've been seeing a lot of commercials lately for companies like US Fidelis, stoprepairbills.com, etc. Just not sure which would be a good one though. I heard US Fidelis was scamming people so I'm skeptical about them. I have a 2003 x-type with 122,000

I had my 2002 X-Type covered under EasyCare Total Package after my Factory Warranty ran out. I found them excellent, however the dealerships are difficult to deal with. It was a real battle with them in Toronto that required me to become an expert in the contract exclusion details. I'm sure you could buy any extended coverage as long as you know the exclusion particulars (hoses, rust, etc), have a second party inspect your car before servicing so you know the details (an objective opinion), and if you go ahead with the repair make sure you have the shop/dealership guarantee their work outside the Extended Warranty.

I have used my Extended Warranty to rebuild my transmission, replace multiple electrical parts, all drive shafts and sensors, and lastly the oil pan gaskets and TC case seals. My X-Type was demanding, the dealership fought me constantly (finally asked me not to come back, shop forman was on my side but the Service Manager was a real !@#)... but in the end my 8 year old X-Type runs like new

Thats a tuff one. I have the Jaguar select warranty and they have fixed a couple things on my Jag. Its dealer backed and so far has been nothing short of excellent. Not sure if your car would qualify for it due to the mileage, but call and find out. I know they send around a postcard to get older X-Types onto the select warranty.

Mine is 2004 X-Type with 42k miles.

Otherwise sell it and get a newer 05-08 X-Type from the dealer with the warranty.

Hate to derail a thread, but I have my own question about warranties that I cannot seem to get a reasonable answer from anyone, so I thought I would throw it out in this. I have the Jaguar Extra Mile protection and it covers "all components and parts, except those excluded in Section E of the terms and conditions" which I have attached. The terms and conditions are not specific to my issue.

The issue is that the dash on the passenger side near the window has "raised" somewhat. The Dealership says its not covered but from what I have read, I am thinking it would be covered since it seems to be some form of defect in the glue on the dash. It is very visible and I was told I need the whole dash replaced as a result.

Anyone want to chime in here on their opinion, would appreciate it.

I tried to upload the PDF, but its too big, so here is a link to the terms and conditions.

I bought my Easy Care from my Jag dealer. Never once had to fight for any repairs. I can't understand why they would ask you not to come back.
They are still getting paid (by the warranty company)so trying to fight you and send you away just makes no sense, unless they are so busy with non warranty 100% customer pay work that they don't need you,in today's economy I can't see that happening. Did you tick them off so bad that they wanted rid of you? Easy Care is a great buy for ext warranty.I will buy it for my 06 once factory coverage is done.Actually transferred it to the buyer of my 01 when I sold the car.It was the reason the guy bought mine over another without the warranty.

I never had problems with EasyCare, and I agree that any shop should be happy for the work. In Buffalo I found that West Herr sees it this way, but in Toronto it is not the case. I've talked with them all, none of them like dealing with anyone but Jaguar.... it is a real problem.... anyways this particular dealership that sold me the EasyCare coverage was in the habit of blaming everything on non-warranty items, so it was rather confrontational with them... example left rear speaker failed and was blamed on rust... I demanded to see... guess what no rust!!!, same with Transmission hoses that they said was leaking causing the intermittent transmission failure, third party inspection showed no leaks!!!, oh and the battery they replaced unnecessarily due to sensor failures that turned out to be the sensors. Eventually I was credited back $$$$ for the expenses, and they were not happy about it... Concerning the transmission, they made multiple mistakes with the install and subframe alignment.... that was a big fight that eventually went to another shop that showed they made mistakes and was repaired by the other shop for which they had to pay.... after all that this Service Manager, instead of being apologetic about their shop's workmanship and diagnostic skills, they became very belligerent and was supported by the owner, I have an e-mail where they told me to go elsewhere... so I decided to go to local shops for my car repairs and my car has never run better....

I bought a Primus Care extended when the car had 17k but was running up against the time limit. Easily got my money out of this one with 2 transfer cases, prop shafts, water pump, steering rack, etc...

However, with 122k you will probably be looking at a very expensive extended warranty. Ask yourself how much longer you are going to keep the car? If just a year or two I would roll the dice and pass on it.

I plan on keeping the car. I love it. I put like 3k a month on it thats why the mileage is high. I just was wondering if an extended warranty would be a good a thing for me to purchase and if so which ones were good. I just want to be prepared for future repairs I may encounter.

Start by pricing some out and do a cost v. benefit.

Have you had any of the big ticket items already replaced (tranny, x-fer case, etc)?
