Finally got myself a Jag
Hey guys,
I posted a while back when I thought I was getting a Jag here.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...estions-89774/
After a few deals fell through I have ended up with an '06 3.0L X-Type (133k kms) and after a day of minimal driving I already love it. Already got 18" Advanti Wheels as one of the OEM rims was cracked and the others weren't in great shape either.
I have read posts in this forum over and over and have a couple of things in mind.
At the top of the list is:
- Stereo/Audio (need suggestions on this as I haven't read up much on the Sat Nav options)
- Mufflers (not sure whether to go with the Mina system or go the cheaper route of grabbing some Magnaflows like my old car.)
- Grille (Deciding whether to go for mesh and lower mesh or the Update style Grille from Mina plus lower mesh)
Keep in mind I'm 21 and am on a pretty strict budget haha
.
There's plenty of other things to consider such as window tinting, lowering etc. and these would all be a bit down the track but I am open to all suggestions.
Was also thinking about replacing the leaper with the flat badge as I park at the back of a shopping strip just off a carpark where people walk through after a good night on the drink. Thought it's better off me taking it off than someone else.
Cheers.

Oh a bit of clarification on the Stereo/Audio.
I have taken the Kicker amp and sub combo out of my old car and will probably end up putting it in the Jag. Is this going to be a pain with the Sat Nav head unit?
Also if I want to replace the speakers, I am going to need another amp right? The amp for my sub only has enough to power the sub and I'm guessing whatever is running the stock speakers just isnt going to cut it?

Congratulations! Nice colour, too
I don't like most aftermarket wheels, but those ones look nice.
If you consider your budget strict, I'd advise you to wait a bit before any of the planned upgrades as it's always possible to encounter some surprising repair jobs soon after buying a new car. Do change the transfer case oil (and probably other oils too), just for the peace of mind!
That being said, I've posted up X-Type exhaust sound clips here. I myself quite like the Mina 2008-style grille, though I haven't (yet) got one myself. You can get a pretty good idea what it'd look like on a car of that colour by having a look at exexpat's car.

I've seen your videos before and just wanted to say thanks for putting them up as they helped me narrow my options down to the Mina or Magnaflows (these are only an option because of the budget). Also the reason I like the Mina 08 style grille is because of Exepat's car. Looks really nice in silver, more so than it does in other colours.
Oh and yeah the wheels were fairly similar to the OEM ones so I thought why not.
Thanks for the help mate!
Oh, nice to hear
exexpat's car also has that badge in the place of the leaper. Another alternative could be this, though as seen on the first X-Type photo, it sits a bit far up on the bonnet if used to cover the leaper holes. Much better on the black X-Type at the end (jonesy1974xtype's car).
When choosing mufflers, I'd advise to go for ones that have interchangeable tips. I've been through a few (1st is stock, 2nd Adamesh, 3-5 Mina) and thus consider it a bonus to be able to easily change the look with just the tips:

bevoh, I have done a lot of looking into what it would take to get more power out of the SAT/NAV setup. In short, what I have determined I would need to do is to get my hands on a Ford stereo plug for an aftermarket radio and then I was going to pull the wires out of the plug so I could then remove the speaker wires out of the factory plug and then replace them with the ones from the Ford plug. This would then give me some wires I could run over to a line level to RCA converter. From there, I would have my RCAs to power the amps. From there, the rest would be like adding a stereo to any other car. This also makes it so if I wanted to pull the stereo out when I sold the car, putting things back to stock would be pretty easy.
As for the mods that you are looking at, if you are on a strict budget, I would do the leaper removal (found some on e-bay, but they are wanting $80+ for the badge alone) first as that will be the cheapest. Granted, there are some knock off leapers on e-bay too that were cheaper. So, that is a hard call to make.
I would then look at either the stereo or the tinted windows. Both of these will be the next cheapest mod you are looking at since you already have most of the parts for the stereo. Also, the tinted windows will help keep the eyes out of the inside of your car because of the stereo.
As for the exhaust, I have installed 2 of the Mina kits and installing them is easy and they do give a nice sound, but that is about all that you are getting. The performance increase is minimal and for what they cost, it is an awfully expensive mod when you are looking at dollars/hp gain.
Enjoy the kitty and treat her nice. She will then treat you nice.

Nice
But what I really want to know is how to get the video on my NAV like his. I wouldn't necessarily use it to watch "football" but it would be cool none the less!

Oh, ya, the one that wasn't available in North America...
Anyone know what was actually in that option and whether North American NAV unit could be upgraded?

Not sure of that, but in Finland at least it's a completely useless option these days for we no longer have analog TV broadcasts. Everything's digital. Not sure of how it goes in the US, Finland is always an early adopter of new tech.
I'd imagine the broadcast frequencies are not the same in the US as they are in EU or Australia, so a TV module from another region wouldn't work?

Ah yes, we've moved out of analog too, so never mind... ;-)

Bevoh, the car looks sensational, especially the new wheels. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the wheels and tyres from, and what did they cost?
I've seen them online at Jax, but haven't yet got a price.
Thanks
Rob

The wheels are from here
http://www.mswt.com.au/
They don't seem to be listed on the site though. They are called Advanti Lavante.
I'm not sure of the price because I didn't pay for them
haha.I'd suggest just use their Contact Us form to get a quote.
Sorry I couldnt be of more help.
Congratulations and good luck with your purchase. All of the questions you have are for the most part, personal decisions, so I will let you go with your feelings and amount of money in the bank! Bill here in OHIO USA.
