Question First Real Problem- P0710 WHAT THE HECK?!?!

Hello fellow X typers,

It feels strange writing this as it has been the first problem that I have not been able to diagnose easily. I was driving today on the highway, probably around 95 deg. F outside and then all of a sudden a get a Gearbox Fault with a P0710

What could this be, it is supposed to be "Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction" but what do I do with this info. I checked the forums and there doesn't seem to be anyone that has had this problem.

Shifting seems a bit rough but nothing at all bad. I am utterly clueless at this point

aCapiz, it could be something very simple as you managed to have something go under the car and it simply damaged some wiring near the tranny and what you are seeing is an open in the wiring for the temp sensor. After that, it may be that the temp sensor simply failed. As for replacing the sensor, can not help you there. NOt familiar with the Jatco trannies to say what would need to be done. Could be something as simple as unscrewing a sensor on the side of the tranny. Don't know. WOrst case, they would have to pull the pan off the bottom of the tranny and then replace something there followed with new tranny fluid. A competent tranny shop should be able to connect up their computer and see if the sensor opened or if you have a true problem inside of the tranny that is causing it to run really hot.

As for why the car is shifting hard/rough, the computer is trying to minimize the heat buildup in the tranny created when the tranny shifts gears (heat is created as the tranny bands slip to smooth the engine RPM transistion between the gears).
