Default speedo clusters, any definite answers yet?

Hi all,
I have searched high and low on this topic but haven't found any definite answers and add most of the posts were written years ago I'm going there may be an answer now add the cars have gotten older and more people have worked/messed around with them!
I'm looking to change the speedo cluster in my 03 s type 4.2 v8 with one ordered on eBay from the exact same model of car...
Is all this talk of anti theft mode real and if so had anyone worked a way around it?
I was also considering having my original cluster worked on until the guys who do it said the odometer may alter and i had read on here that the different reading will lock up the car!?
Many thanks for your thoughts. ..
Alex

The old threads are accurate. No further posts are because no-one has succeeded. You can only make changes to your existing one that leave all the computery bits alone or else expect anti-theft. By all means get the dealer tool and play around to see if it lets you do more.

Thanks for that info...

Is it something where if you change it over and it goes into anti-theft. if I replace back to the original it should be ok... or is it something that then involves towing and dealers etc etc!!

I am more than keen to get in and have a fiddle and let people know but not as much so if the car will definitely be stranded!

Many Thanks

Alex

I'd leave it alone but it's your call.

I went through all of this when my speedo started having the the slipping dial pointers. I ended up getting it repaired with "supposedly" upgraded clutches for the needles. Yes you have to have the dealer tool and authorized access to their security database to use it otherwise any old blok could start doing bad things.

If you'reable to hack that then I suppose you could get by.
