Default Fixed headlight levelling

Just a heads up on diagnosing headlight levelling problems. The car failed the MOT on headlights being too low, I suspected it may be either the front or rear levelling sensor, luckily my Icarsoft 930 dislays all the data from that system, I could read off the values from the sensors when I moved the arm up or down, the front worked fine and the rear just read 100% all the time, confirmed by a DTC for the invalid rear sensor data. Before I ordered a new sensor at £220 I thought I’d just check the continuity on the harness, it winds around the subframe and rear shock and then attaches to the rear swinging arm before going back to the body work. This seemed a bit unnecessary seeing as it introduces a flexing movement in the harness and this is where I found the break by using an ohm meter between the plug at the sensor and the harness where it enters the floorpan. There are 3 thin wires and the break was in the white one, repaired with a solder heat crimp and plugged it in and hey presto the lights motored up to where they should be. Checked for DTC’s and there were none, I’d have been very annoyed if I had bought the sensor as the problem would still have been there and £220 worse off. So if you have any problems here its worth checking the harness at the left rear swinging arm where it loops from the bodywork to the arm and back again.
