Default Front door release cable

Hi,

I had been driving with non-functional door lock for almost a year now. Yesterday, I tore door linings apart and I saw, that a cable, which is releasing lock, is broken. Fun fact, it has been repaired. Because of very dumb repair, car can't lock when command is given. I can open door (because I pull the cable out). But when pushing in the cable for locking, it stops.
So, I need a new cable. Here where I live, new one is very expensive (85€ for OEM part and no B-parts are available). There are no used cables too. What I am thinking, that since X-Type is based on Mondeo MK3, maybe cable from Mondeo will fit? Has anyone tried out replacing cables with Mondeo ones? I can get them from everywhere and I could save money on buying cheaper one. Thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for replying, Graham.
I already saw this ad on Ebay, and that would be my last option. 4 quid it is, but postage fee is an extra 10 quid. Plus, delivery time varies from 7-14 days.
Why I asked, because from local scrappy in here I can get Mondy MK3 cable for 8€ without any extras and I can pick it up the same day.

Regards.

Just wondering if these cable are prone to stretching?
my 2006 X Type has issues with the interior door handle not working. I have to open the door via the outer handle then wind the window up. Initially the handle worked about 50% of the time, but now the interior handle doesn't open the door at all. I stripped the door lining off and WD 40 hit the whole shebang. But still no good......
Any one else had similar issues/got suggestions?

Default SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right then you collection of superstars!

After a little bit of fettling of an M8 nut with my Dremmel as per the link, I stripped the door liner again in quick order. (Nothing like a bit of recent practice to aid expedience!)....
Popped the split nut in place between the cable shoulder and the retainer. Then wrapped a bit of Gaffer tape around it to keep it in place.
Put the cable nipple back onto the interior door handle, slid it back into position and added a bit more gaffer tape, to again aid it staying put.
Then reassembled the door liner and put the retaining screws back. Sat in the driver's seat and fearfully closed the door........
Gently tried the handle and just in case, took the weight of the latch off by pulling the door inwards a bit. (It works that way on the exterior handle as well so it made sense...)......... and,,,,,,,,
C'st voila!!!!!!!!! OPEN SESAME!!!!!

THANK YOU DEL GALLEY!!!!!!! Day officially made! The door now opens every time, no "pinball wizard" style sound effects when unlocking the car either!
FANTASTIC JOB!!!!!!! Cheers!

Dandy! I thought the use of the split type lead fishing sinkers was a novel idea and pretty easy to fo as well as adjust where needed.
