Fuel Range

Fuel Range
I have a bad habit (especially at $4 a gallon) of waiting until the last minute to fill up. I usually watch the "RANGE" function on the trip computer towards the end of a tank. The low fuel light usually goes on around 25-30 miles left.
Anyway, today I really pushed it and it got down to 11 miles before I filled up. So, I was wondering...How low have you gone? Has anyone ever ran out of gas? Is that reading fairly accurate?

RE: Fuel Range
When you consider that the fuel tank has to be removed to replace the pumps, plus the cost of the pumps, gets a little expensive. I have never seen one yet though that just burned up from running it low. I have driven customer cars showing 0 miles for about 15 miles and then got some splutter on a right hand turn. That was the end of that test drive.

RE: Fuel Range
the reserve is not any special area of the tank.. the "reserve" is just the red zone on the gauge. It also could be considered the amount of fuel when the light comes on.
I think that filling up when the light comes on is fine.. I dont believe there is any harm to the fuel pump from running below a quarter.. that is an urban legend. The jag is different than most cars since there is no return fuel line.
