Default Funny Air Condioner Failure

nice forumfolks - i've been lurking and learning lots for a while. time to post now...
ok - i have a 2003 x-type
weather here is so freekin cold - it was just the other day when i had the first chance to turn on the ac - no joy, just warm air.

**** - get the scan tool out and no codes.- good
put gauge on suction side and get75lbs - good
remove fuse/relay box cover and fuse is good
remove relay and short normally open contacts - still no cool air
shine flashlight from engine compartment down into compressor area and see ac shaft not turning
remove the relay jumper and measure resistance to clutch 4 ohms - good

wtf???

bring car to my mechanic and tell him i can't get my fat head under the car to see it, but it's gotta be the ac clutch

later in the day mechanic calls me to tell me that i was close - and that the clutch is missing from the car!!

can you imagine!? just a pulley and a threaded shaft remain....

No...he called the cops and everything. We ended up having the BMW dealer down the road replace it for around $100 just to get him gone and we reflashed the ECM and VID block on a XJ. You ever noticed on the 2006 XJ when you update ECM, it no longer has ASL? gotta wait for new VID block. SUcks.

One in a hundred prob use it. They are the ones that notice. Now I always check after reflash to make sure it still is there. It is only number in the VID block. I asked them to give it to me so I could change it myself, but they wouldn't...lol. Afraid I would set the Speed Limiter to 200mph or something...lol.
