Gas Prices Raising to 4 Dollars a gallon. Lets increase our MPGs!!
All,
As the driving season is about to start, it will be to our advantage to tune up, fix or just maintain our beloved Jaguars.
Here are some tips to gain more MPGs
1) Oil change: the better lubrication your car, the more efficient it can run. Keeping your oil changed will ensure that your car will be in tip top shape.
2) Air Filter: Easier to breathe, easier to move. Cleaning or replacing your air filter can increase MPGs. However, items like the “tornado” or other items you need to place inside are not needed.
3) Empty your trunk: unless it’s essential like a rescue kit or a spare tire. Try to keep those golf clubs or other items in the garage for the time being. Lugging around extra weight could drag down your car and reduce it MPGs.
4) Tire inflation. If your tires are underinflated, this could cause unnecessary drag on the car. And since your tires should be the only thing touching the ground, this drag exponentially increases as you drive.
Well, there you are folks, just some ways to save money at the pump with our X’s.
If you guys have any more tips , please reply to this thread and share.
Regards

as much as I hate the rise at the pump.... I am quite certain that high energy cost is the slap in the face that north america needs.
There are days when I feel i should conserve, other days when I say.. why wait for grey hair? Time for big engines now.
In the end I bought a Lotus Esprit and drove that for a couple of summers,
Hopefully the next time I get really fast it is a ferarri and my hair is only salt and pepper.. lol

i think that the 27-31 mpg i usually get is pretty good. Havnt been there for a while though. lately its been consistantly 23 no matter how i drive. Must we winter blend gasoline. I just wouldnt think premium would have to be a winter blend.

i assume your talking reg. i know a gas station in the city by where i work that sells gas cheaper than anywhere else around. I get premium for the price reg cost everyone else

Nice! Is it particular chain or something? I was thinking about getting a gas credit card, but have been hearing mixed feelings about them.

I average between 22.0 and 23.0 mpg in the Jag X-type w/ a 3.0L and 5spd. I just changed over to all synthetic oils in trans, engine, T-case, and differential with ~ 1mpg increase. I run my tires at near 40 in front and 38 in back.
I suspect I can not get much better. A 6th gear while highway cruising would have been nice to get the rpm's a tad lower say ~ 2300rpm.
In my old 1984 Porsche 944 I managed consistent 25mpg even with over 200,000 miles on her. This had a 2.5L SOHC w/ a 5spd.

Dude, atleast spell your 'new' car correctly!!![&:]
Come this summer, I'm going to do some extensive maintenance and prove to you pansies that these things can get good mileage w/o spending an arm and a leg. (lol, I say all this, and I haven't even checked how to change the air filter on this thing!!!!) I believe the x-type is getting 23mpg mixed (I want say 50% highway/city). I bet I can get it up 3/4mpg! Also, consider this is driven by an older lady who loves blipping the throttle every second....arghh it annoys the hell out of me. I tell her to keep a nice soft touch on the accelerator, but no...blip blip blip brake blip brake...[&:]
I am also highly skeptical about oil changes and improving gas consumption, unless you're doing oil changes every 30k miles or some crazy ish.

I belive you can pull an extra 1/2 mpg's if your cars engine, tires, fuilds, and filters are in great condition. you can add an extra 2/3 mpg to that buy better driving and if you could change the gear patterns on the computer add another 2/3 mpgs. butt for city driving all that will only get an extra 1 mpg for me. I average 9-11mph during the week and get to 17 on the weekend. (i use trip A/B to compare the two).
Ancient i have faith you can do it, but get the lady to changer her driving will be a a whole different thing to tackle. That i wish you all the luck with her.

I once read somewhere that if you were to add another ground to your engine you could get better gas mileage. Now I do not remember where I read it and even after there explanation I still couldnt understand how it worked. Anyone ever hear of this?
Also I saw the commercial for that tornado thing a while ago, now it seems way too good to be true but they offer a money back guarantee (so I figured its a scam) but has anyone ever been suckered into buying this from the late night infomercial and noticed any results?

Rudy its all city driving. I live in chicago, i am 6 miles from work and it takes me 45 minutes to get there. Public transport takes me an hour and a half. So you can see i travel VERY SLOWLY in stop and go traffic, which will tax the go pedal alot. I basicly sit in trafic dodge pothole and not real drive. thats what night time and weekends are for. opening the taps!!!
