I'll bet some electrical connector got some water in it and cause a bad signal to be sent to the tranny<->computer...which may have cause the the limp mode..

Like Dennis said...hopefully its just some water go into a connector...if not...then lets not hope you have to changeyour throttle body like I did. I had the same issue at 50K, 2 days after I had acquired my 2.5. I thought it was the transmission as well...but glad it wasn't...it came out cheaper paying for the TB.

If you cleaned the engine it is common for fault lights to come on.
Just keep an eye on it.
For future reference, when the car goes into limp home mode, pull over, shut it off and restart. It should behave normally again until it sees fault again. 80k on original X-Type trans? Buy a lottery ticket mate.

Hey Ron..

I would have the tranny fluid changed..but you are gonna crap your BVDs when you see how expensive the Jaguar Fluid is..Jaguar ATF Fluid= $50.75/qt and I understand you'll need about 8 qts for a drain and refill...I have did some extensive research into this and found the only Fluid that will meet and be compatible with the JATCO fluid is Valvoline MaxLife ATF...I'm not 100% sure of this yet, but Valvoline stands behind their recommendation..it's the best I've found so far to meet all the specs of the JATCO tranny..

Good luck

Gear box fault and engine fault!
i had that happen to my xtype a little over a month ago. (should be a thread her somewhere with me whining about it)
my issue was the throttle body went bad.
limp home mode sucks, i went three bloks before i called emergancy roadside service. i wasnt about to drive 5mph for 7 miles!!!

also check if your tranny is on this bad tranny list!

There are a few common thing you can check. Pull open the bonnet and look for tube that may have a crack in it. I'm not sure if 2.5l motors had this problem as well as 3.0 but i know many people have had this problem but I think they were all 3.0. Watch to see if it happens only when wet...

Happens to both 2.5 and 3.0. It is the PCV breather hose.

If it went into limp home....it will have stored codes. Run to autozone, post them and lets see what we got.

As Dennis mentioned, has anyone here used this tranny fluid Valvoline MaxLife ATF?

If not what did you use to flush your tranny fluid? I don't want to spend $50 bucks per quart for the OEM fluid.
