Default Glove box operation

I have removed my glove box to diagnose a fresh air door problem. My glovebox has not operated properly since I acquired the Jag xtype a few weeks ago. I notice the assembly with gear and the arm with teeth that allow the glove box to open slowly is present on the left hand side of the box and it works if the right side of the door is supported just so. It looks to me as if maybe there is a guide or part missing on my glovebox right side where that arm slides through an opening. Here are pictures. Am I missing a piece on the right side?

Update. I presume that I am not missing any pieces on my glovebox because I applied a small amount of silicone grease to the gear and tooth mating surfaces and reinstalled my glove box and all works smoothly. The gear damper may have just slipped the track when it was in the dash previously. So all is good for now with glovebox operation.
