to grease or not to grease
Hi all just a quick one, ive just replaced the front wheel bearing's on my xtype, now it seems the near side bearing keeps slipping outward, as their is no retaining circlip, should I have pressed bearings in dry not greased.
Thanks in advance Rob

suprasix30, yes, the bearings should have been pressed in dry. Granted, the fact that you greased them shouldn't make all that much of a difference as the fix is supposed to be tight enough that all the grease should have been squished out to begin with. If you have a bearing that is moving on you, then you have a different issue (ie, worn hole on the spindle or too small of a bearing). We are talking only like 0.001" or a very small fraction of a millimeter. We are not talking a whole lot here. Pressed together items are made with very tight tolerances and something as simple as being rather aggressive with sandpaper inside the spindle to clean up the rust can be enough to cause problems.
Thanks thermo
Ur prognosis could be on the money as I did clean hole really well with emery paper, I have another vertical link on order and should arrive soon so think its time for a change
Big thx again Rob

Well just a quick update, I have now driven the bearing home once more unconventional method big socket big hamer, then torque too 270 Nm. So we'll see if she stays put this time.
Thx again Thermo
