Default Hard to fill the fuel tank

Around a year ago I had to have the fuel pump on the tank re-seated. They thought the pump was bad but sometime in the past it had been cross threaded. Anyway, ever since then I've had a problem filling the tank. If I pump regularly the pump kicks off after 4-5 seconds. I have to fill up slowly to get a full tank. I do remember, before the fuel pump work, it still wouldn't fill up unless I pumped slowly for the last few gallons.
I read somewhere there was a fix for this.

flyrr100, if you look back by the gas charcoal filter, there is a solenoid valve between the canister and the fuel tank. It sounds like that has either failed or been disconnected. That valve is what breaks the vacuum/pressure in the gas tank. So, in order for our gas tank to vent now, it has to go back up the filler tube and hence is causing the gas pump to think the gas tank is full.

Is it a job I can do at home with my spanners? Or is it a Jag Guy job?

This problem is very common on modern cars but you can avoid it entirely by a very simple procedure when filling: just do not put the nozzle all the way into the tank filler tube. It is the lack of air around the nozzle that is causing the problem. Just pull it back a bit and you will have no problem at all in filling the tank.

flyrr100, this should be a job that you can do yourself. You should see a rubber hose about the size of your thumb coming off of the gas tank running towards the rear of the car. This will go to a large plastic tank. Mounted to that tank should be a solenoid valve. This is the valve in question. You cannot simply remove this valve as this will cause the evap system large leak code to come in. It will assist with filling the car, but will simply cause another problem you will have to deal with later.

Just hold the filler nozzle so that it lines up with the latch opening. (parallel to the ground rather than perpendicular) Gas swirls into the tank as fast as you can feed it!
