I took this harness from the fuse box in the car and the brown with red wire goes to the amp from the trunk I'm trying to find out if I can put it in my fuse box and run the amp from it. If so what location in the fuse box? I have the harness from the amp with all the wires on it . Still trying to get this right so please advise. Thanks. Picture with 2 harness from the amp and the other from the fuse box. One other thing does it matter that these came from a 2007 Jag X Type with Navigation system in it?
Playerpetegunn, I would start with downloading the service manual and electrical diagrams for your car (the ones for the 2004.25 is what you are after as those are the most recent you will find). That will tell you what each of those wires does and you can ensure you don't disconnect something that needs to be running. From there, yes, you should be able to add in a fuse box like you want and power things up. The big question though is how much power are you planning on pulling for the stereo system. All of the wiring in the factory harness is going to be limited to about 10 amps max. So, that pretty much limits you to a 100 W RMS amp (that is total watts, so a 50Wx2 or a 25Wx4). If you want to go bigger, you will need to run a new dedicated line most likely from the battery back to your new fuse box. In the many car stereos I have done over the years, I would tell you to find yourself some quality 6 gauge wire and run it to the back. This will give you enough power to do up to about a 1000 W RMS without having voltage drop issues.
Thanks for the response. Can you Thermo or anyone give me a link to the service and electrical manuals you suggested if so we be well appreciated. I'm not trying to use too much power but enough to make it sound good and not have any issues as you have described. Thermo can you please tell me how to run the wire from battery to fuse box or can I just run the amp wire to the battery? Which is better?
