Default Has anyone removed the rear subframe?

I am thinking of dropping my rear subframe out to give everything a good clean and powder coat most of the components, I see in the manual it refers to a special alignment tool when refitting, is this really required or can this be done without, and if I made some reference marks beforehand. My Jag drives beautifully so don’t want to risk having handling problems afterwards i.e. the car crabs due to misalignment.

I'd be interested to hear how the home mechanic's could do this, as with their ageing,
I am guessing more are failing their annual inspection due to rust and bush wearing (and no known source for new ones..)
so hopefully good news

TIA

Default I have changed out the cracked rear subframe on 2005 x-type

I changed out the rear subframe from my 2005 x-type. It was all pretty straightforward. The tough part was removing the 4 bolts that hold up the subframe, as they are long and threadlocked the whole length of the bolt. Then unbolting the rear differential from the subframe went well.

Thanks for the replies, did you take out the subframe complete wirh drive shafts and hubs etc or did you strip parts off first to make it easier? On car restoration programmes on TV they usually take out the whole lot in one but the they have a car lift which makes it easier, if I do it the car will be jacked up on the floor.

Default Rear subframe removal

I did indeed remove everything that was removable, disconnected the driveshaft from the differential, then loeered the subframe with the differential still attached.

Just found this video,
not super detailed but good enough, looks like he has a FWD so if you have AWD, this will be a bit more complicated

and also a supplier of replacement parts that I struggled to find before, as always check this is the one for your model

XE 2015-ON REAR SUSPENSION SUBFRAME T2H51867

not sure if the supplier helps, but I have seen many discussions over where to get a subframe and or new bushes - these guys supply poly bushes as well.

TIA

I haven't done the rear subframe but I have done the front subframe that requires the "special alignment tool". There are alignment holes in the body that should be concentric to the alignment holes in the subframe so what you need is a cylinder with the matching diameter of the body alignment hole and also a slightly smaller diameter of the subframe hole. I made measurements and went through my home plumbing kit to find a pipe that fit the subframe hole perfectly then had a woodworker friend turn down a wooden dowel that fit into the pipe while also having the same diameter needed for the body. Hopefully the rear alignment tool is not more complicated.

The Jaguar Club of North America that has a library of specialty tools that can be loaned out. Perhaps there is a similar resource for Scandinavia/EU?

Thanks for all the info guys, I have visited Autoreserve when I have been back in the UK as they are near to where my family lives. They give great service and once one of the employees took a trim part from his own car as they didn’t have it in stock. Would definitely recomnend them especially Danny who is the guy I always deal with.
