You can buy a replacement ceramic connecotor to replace the plastic factory one for $5.

Courtney, if you are looking to convert over to HIDs in the headlights, you have 2 options. You can use the factory harness as it is rated for the 20 amp load per HID bulb. But, you can also use a relay to power the HIDs too (make sure to use a 40 amp relay). One note of caution, you will need only 35 W HID bulbs, not the 50W HID bulbs. HID bulbs are much more efficient in converting electricity to light.

If you need any help and are in the Washington DC area, let me know. I converted my fog lights over to HID and doing the job isn't hard. The hard part of it all will be getting the headlights off of the car. You want to remove the headlights mainly so you can be careful with the headlight assemblies. As many people here will tell you, the mounts inside of the headlights (holds the reflectors in place) are very weak and any sort of push/pulling can lead to these failing. Once they fail, your headlights point down at the road and makes it very hard to see anything in front of you. So, you will need to remove the front bumper cover and then remove the headlight assemblies. The hard part of removing the headlight assemblies isn't pulling them out but unplugging them. I'm sure there is a trick to the plug, I just haven't figured it out.

Like was mentioned, you can put a new plug on the end of the factory harness and go from there. I am placing money that you tried running some high wattage headlight bulbs. Those are well known for melting headlight wiring harnesses. Because they are halogen bulbs, they generate tons of heat and it will trace back up the wiring and melt the insulation off of the wiring.

If you need any more info or have more questions, just ask. I work around electronics for a living, so, something like this is pretty straight forward for me.
