It has done 104,000 mls with a manual gearboxand im wondering if anyone can give some advise on what i should be looking out for as it is my first Jaguar car, incedently it on an 02 plate and feel that will make a difference in the advice given to me somehow.
Thanks everyone for all your input.

104,000..... is that miles? If so I would suggest looking for one with less miles on it. The X-Type has a low resell value so finding one with less miles at a good price should not be hard. I have a feeling the one you are looking at has a low price on it. If you are buying it because you think "I can own a Jag for a cheap price" keep this in mind. The price of the car may be low to you. The maintenance on the car is not. if You buy one for $20k or $3k the cost to keep it going is the same. If you can not afford the cost of such a car I would not suggest getting it. It will just **** you off when something goes wrong and leave a bad taste in your mouth about the brand, which is the opposite Jaguar intended when making the X-Type. If it is an 02' and you still think this is the car for you then here is what I would look for: Hard shifting points (if it is an automatic), any noise coming from the transfer case, any clunking noise coming from the rear end, make sure the drivers seat does not rock or move, check the head lamps and make sure the projector lens does not bounce or move. That is all I have, I am sure if you do some searching on this site you will find everything you are looking for.

Hi ST3v3, for what its worth my son has just bought a x type 2002 , 3.00 ltr in june this year with 100.000 miles on it, since then he has covered 7000 miles without any problems and it runs as sweet as a nut, I bought a 2.5 at the same time with 13000 on the clock and i have been plauged with problems, so to me i think high milage is the better buy as it seems like all the problems have already been fixed by the previous owners.just my opinion .On the other hand check for whining transmission at around 30 mph... . yep its in mls so sorry for the confusion.
Ive actually just pulled out of the deal as after a good look round on here, it seems that if tires arent the issue causing vibration then it could only be the prop/drive shafts, so i called it on this one.
But im still looking around so any comments are still welcome

Hey ST3...........if you're lookin at the X you should be able to get some crackin deals as the resale value has plummeted. but what a car you'll get for your money......and the looks you'll get??
People will automatically assume you "have" money....lol.
If you can though try to go for an 04 plate as most of the teething issues will have been sorted by then!
Good luck

Steve, I would not recommend this car, att 104,000 Miles. If you said it was an '02 then for sure skip it. Like the guys said, the resale value of the car is cheap, find yourself a better one with less miles. Specially that you can feel some vibration that should not be there, I would step away from that deal and look into another one.
Cheers.
