Default Help with air intake trumpets please

Hello guys. Popped my hood this morning to clean some leaves out. And noticed one of the air intake trumpets (sit right in front of the radiator. Like 2 intake tubes that connect to the air box. One of the trumpets is not fully seated onto the air box. Gotta tiny bit of space. The other is seated perfectly. Looks easy enough to realign but wanna know should I loosen the trumpets bolts to seat it back on the air box ? Or adjust it loosening the air box ? Any step by step will be greatly appreciated

I would just give it a little push and it should pop right back in. Worst case, I am thinking you would need to loosen the air box, slide the trumpet section out of the retainers in the air box, get it all properly aligned and then re-install the trumpets into the air box and then tighten down the airbox.

Thx Thermo. Tried to push the trumpet end back into the air box but was unable too. Is the lower part of the air box and the intake trumpets all in one piece ? Or are the trumpets and the air box 2 separate parts that just slide into each other ? Thx

I want to say that there is 3 pieces to what you are dealing with. You have the plastic that goes under the support for the hood, you have the air box itself, and then you have a piece that slides into the side of the air box that joins the two together. So, you can get the flat edge of the middle piece, align it to the air box and with a little bit of work, it will slide into the recess that holds the middle piece to the air box. IT isn't all that hard to get all the pieces together as I recall. Granted, been too many years since I have put my hands on an X-type to remember the details of something like this.

Well, before I bought my car. Someone had gained access to that area and had just cut the horns off the airbox. I found this out when I had to replace plugs and coils on both banks. As I found it difficult to find the horns ion Australia at that time, I just pushed them back against the airbox (as they had been) and they are still that way after about 4 years. Doesn't seem to have any effect on the operation of my car. I do have a new part in my garage, and as I have to change an O2 sensor shortly, I will attempt to fit it, but I am in no real hurry.
