I undertook changing out my front shocks and decided to replace lower control arms as well. I ordered Ultra Power economy lower arms from Rock Auto, but it appears to be off a few mm. For the life of me I cannot get the ball joint back on. I opened up the knuckle with a spreader but it just won't pound in! I've tried everything! Does anyone have any ideas?

 

Have you checked if the new control arms are exactly the same principal dimensions as the original ones. There are those suppliers who believe (cheaper) Mondeo parts will always fit an X Type but many purchasers have been disappointed!

Thanks for the quick responses! I was able to get it back on - needed a long crowbar to get the lower arm down low enough, straighten up the ball joint, push the knuckle back further and it dropped right in.
