help grarbox fault code
Hi
I have seen a few posts on this but have no definitive answer,
I have a 2001 x-type 2.5 and yesterday it gave up on me. I says gearbox fault, it will not start and will not shift out of park. I dont know whats going on. I seen on a few posts it might be a battery fault but I have put a new battery into it and still no joy. originally the problem i had was it would not start i was just getting a clicking noise, taught it was the battery dead so i tried to jump start and then the gear selector got stuck in park and i got the gearbox error. no when i turn the key nothing happens not even the click,
can anyone help???

Your Gearbox fault sounds worse than mine was.
I have had the error for two reason, neither of which were the gearbox itself.
First was the battery related one, I had the Alternator changed and until the battery fully recharged I got the error a couple of times. Now the alternator is done I am also going to change the positive battery cable as the older ones do decay and you loose voltage across the cable.
The second reason I got the error was the shifter linkage. They will start to seize up after awhile with corrosion. Mine would shift into gear though and although I could drive it the computer still sees it slightly out of position and throws up the gearbox error.
Not sure this will help your problem, but it's the 2 reasons I have had.
Good Luck with it.

Best bet would be the inertia reset has cut in at a guess the aircon etc is of aswell??
I had this problem and took days to find.
If you go in the drivers footwell(uk) or passenger(us) there is a kick pannel infront of door under dash.
There is a hole with fuel cut off logo small under it put your finger through switch is underneath and press down.
If it clicks problem solved and it should all work again.
This often happens with a low battery or battery change/jump leads.
Hope this helps but if not let me know as there are a few other wierd things that cause this that have nothing to do with the gearbox.
