Default Help. I can't even start this '02 x type I bought

A friend had this car given to him by our boss. It ran great then went downhill fast. One day it started missing badly. They limped to O'Reilly and a code reader gave about 6 trouble codes all pointing to coil, plugs...that type of thing. But then the thing wouldn't even crank. Dash lights but nothing from the starter. It's a beautiful clean car and I bought it for $750. I took it to my mechanic. He doesn't have a lot of experience with Jags (nor do I) and he things something is very wrong with the computer and says the dealer must deal with it. My boss, the former owner, says that all of you guys are great and very helpful. Any suggestions?

The possibilities are endless as to what maybe the underlying problem or problems..Knowing this car..my first thing to address would be replacing ALL (both positive and negative) the battery cables, all the way to the alternator...My 03 X was plagued with little electrical issues and that for one thing seemed to cure a bunch of problems...A new battery maybe needed too.

The car at this age is long over due...the cables are known to go bad and I know it don't make sense, but they do.

Default I'll try that.

The prior owner, my boss, has suggested changing battery cables. I'll do that. Thanks!

Anything else anyone?

Post the codes you were getting and someone should be able to point you in the right direction. Better yet, see if you can erase the codes and see if anything new pops up. They you will know they are active issues and not something that was old and just stored in the memory. Probably nothing too serious.

What is the age and condition of the battery? A failing or weak battery can lead to various 'electrical problems' that appear random.
