HELP Jaguar x-type transmission question
I have a Jag x-type 2002 that needs a new transmission. I see there is a break in the manufacturer number above 79000 (close to that). Mine is below that number. I can find a transmission that is above that number and have called the local jag dealer about it. They tell me I can use it because they see no difference listed for the a rebuilt one when they look. It is the same transmission. Is this true? Can I use this transmission on my jag even though it is below the listed break in the manufacturer number? Is there any difference in the transmissions that would affect performance or install? Thanks in advance for anyone who can definitively answer this question.

I think the later cars use a 6 speed auto were as the earlier models use a 5 speed one.

The 2002 automatic had a design fault in the reverse piston assembly which cause many complete failures; this was modified, strengthened, and factory installed on the late 2003 onwards cars. That may be the reason for the number change. These are all 5 speed units. The 6 speed was installed in the very late cars -diesels, I think.
