There's no timing belt on these cars. It's a chain, so you're good there.

There are several threads that cover what to look for in a used X type. Generally, since there is a lot Ford lurking under the skin, some parts prices aren't too bad... For some things. But alot of things are just prohibitively expensive.

These cars don't hold a lot of value so they total out pretty quickly with otherwise light damage. So since prices don't run that high, my best advice is to buy the best one you can find for the available money. Don't buy one that is needy because the need never ends on cars that aren't well sorted.

I do like the look of the wagon. Good luck and be sure to post some pictures.

There is only one near me. And it's asking for 9.9k. I haven't seen it yet. But the dealer seems to be a reputable one. Is it asking for too much?

Is the car friendly with aftermarket parts or oem only?

What's my solution for iphone integration?

I drive a Subaru now, as long as I get some major maintenance done. They are quite reliable. But i just looking for a more comfortable ride.

Do you remember what he thread you are referring called?

Thanks for the reply

Not that much Ford Mondeo / Contour under skin .Modified platform & some Brake/suspension bits. Its about 17% FORD . We dont mention X type & Mondeo , in the same breath , here in UK!!!

9.9k Sounds a bit high. If it is in excellent condition, KKB is only $7000

Most dealers will tell you that this is a Premium Luxuy Vehicle. But all of the reviewers do give it a more realistic value. When I purchased mine, the dealer (finally) came down $1,900.00. No offense, but you need to do research on the vehicle, investigate the KKB Value, drive a few, and go with your gut. Set a budget: price for vehicle, price for repairs right off of the bat (to bring it up to your confidence level), price for unforeseen repairs. Find a good mechanic! Sure it may be a Ford, but the lug nuts tell a different story. I took mine to a long-standing Ford dealership and they would not touch the lug nuts due to the "floating" type that are on the vehicle (if factory correct). Good luck!

Yeah, 9.9k is high to me, even Kbb said with mileage is around $8 - 8.5k is a reasonable price to ask.

Is there anything i should check for during the test drive?

Does this car has oil leak, head gasket issue?

For a wagon I don't think its really that high. I went looking for a wagon before I bought my sedan and the cheapest I could find (nation wide search mind you) was around 8k, and most were around 10 to 15k. Sedans are much cheaper in the US.

Oh and one of my rare posts, I just had to let you see mine, some say it's vanity, on good days, it's self-awareness and for the bad times, it's paranoia!

Live the dream and Ride like the Wind in your prospective new Jaguar, but remember to take your time in choosing and I am sure you will reap the rewards?

Default Sportwagon

Hi Vicdeng,

Adding my welcome to the others in this forum.

I bought mu 05 Sportwagon 4 months ago and am loving it. I bought it with 67K miles for $9k from a dealer. I have put about 3000 miles on it so far, and have had no major problems to report. Been working my way through the routine maintenance and am finding it a pretty easy car to work on. Love the awd for the snow we get around here.

Good luck with your jag.
Eric

Likewise - welcome. there are only around 4000 wagons across the whole of the US and Canada so you will be buying into something pretty rare for this side of the atlantic.

the only wagon specific things to look out for are generally fairly trivial. The rear wash wipe is prone to seizing, and the glass hatch is also known to be temperamental and can either start to "pop" open of its own accord when starting the car, or alternatively just freeze in place. So check that those function properly a few times. The window trim seals that run along the lower edge of all side windows are prone to "bubble" which is the result of a metal strip inside the seal corroding. No big deal and while The seals for the front and rear doors aren't too expensive, the ones for the rear windows on the wagon are difficult to find and expensive. So if they look like they are going bad, that is a bargaining chip to lower the price a few hundred $.

Best of luck, keep us posted and hope you find a good one!
