Default People impressed - why?

Why is everyone impressed by my 2003 Jaguar X-Type? It seems like everywhere I go people are either complimenting the vehicle or asking about it in general.

Friends and family are curious about the vehicle as well.. Does this model jaguar really have that much of an effect on people?

Notes: 2003 Jaguar X-Type, 148k, racing green, excellent condition, 5% tint on windows/rear windshield, 5% tint front windshield strip.

I guess others think like you did when you decided to buy a Jaguar. I assume that you thought it was a nice car. And most/all Jaguars attract attention because they are not too common,I guess.
Welcome to the Jaguar world.

Because it looks traditional and not like a rolling video game (i.e. most other cars today).

I agree with Tony H; people make all kinds of assumptions when they see your car, and if you're getting out of another cookie-cutter, game-arcade vehicle, it's either that you're just too practical/frugal to have any fun or, in the case of Benzs or Bimmers, that that's what the leasing company sent over. A Jag doesn't seem to shout "Lease!", or "I need it for the 3rd-row seating/cargo space" ; it seems to say you're a bit particular about your driving experience, and went out of you way to get exactly what you want. The traditional, wood and leather, slightly exotic air about Jags (here in North America anyway) works wonders. The fact that they're supremely under-rated gadabouts, and CHEAP, well, that's our little secret!

My impression with the X-type is it stands out. How many cars in this class do you see with the added touches of this car? You have touches like dual headlamps with a hood that is sculptured over them. I also think the rear of the car has a nice look with the lay out of the tail lamps and the way the trunk lid is slightly curved over them. One look at the interior with all that gorgeous wood and you know you are looking at something special.

So many cars today just look the same so it is nice to see a car the size of the X type that stands out. I think the newer Jaguar sedan is missing some of this special look and for me does not stand out like so many Jags have from the past.

Lavaman, first off, welcome to the Forums.

As for why Jags are so asked about, it is because they are fairly rare. I know when I leave where I live (DC area), spotting a jag is far and few between. A BMW or a Mercedes are "dime a dozen", you see them everywhere. But the Jag is one of those cars that only a select few have. So, it gets more attention.

I say to look at it this way, if someone pulled up in a Lambo or a Pantera, wouldn't you give them a bit more attention? You are falling into that same category per se. You have a car that most people only read about in the papers and never have sought to get one. If they knew what they could get the car for, a lot more people would be wanting one.

I was at a party yesterday and parked across the road from the party house. Three people were asking who owned that cool Jag? LOL! My 'cool Jag' is a 2002 X Type, black on black.
Most Americans think it's a high performance, expensive luxury car. Who am I to tell them any different?

.....because these are the last of a line of graceful, elegant cars that have that handcrafted look and feel to them. In spite of what critics and even Jaguar themselves now say, cars like this age well and get better with time. I just saw a late 80's XJ40 parked at the gym and that car looked so spectacular it made me want one. I was driving my E type and parked next to it. What a visual delight.

The "new" Jaguars on the other hand won't age as well. The early XF's are already looking like older Toyotas.

The good thing about being slightly retro is that it while looks a tad old when new, it never really gets any older than that

I am a Jag owner of 2 weeks.
(2005 2.0D X-Type Black/cream leather)

My father in-law has the 4.0 v8 S-Type and strongly reccomended that I look at the X-Type for the budget I had.

I only had £2000 to spend and when shopping for a 'family car' this is a lot of car for the money.
I could not get a new shape Astra or Focus for this money.

Not forgeting that when you drive you have the Jag roaring at you from the middle of the wheel!

A Jag is not just a car, Its a way of life!

I have a Jaaag

Full service history by Jag with only 1 previous owner

I love it anyway

Well, Jaguars including X-Types are unfairly affordable in the UK

The cheapest 2.0D X-Type in Finland is a 2004 manual that has done 220 000 miles, and it'd only set you back about £5700/$9200. Mine was about £8500/$13500 imported & taxed.

Wow so Jags really are something in America then!

Well just because they are more common in the UK does not mean they are not as appreciated. We are just lucky that a Jag is more affordable.

The car taxes in Finland are ridiculous, though.

But yeah, British cars are more common in the UK which is not surprising. Also, since all those desirable Jags, Bentleys, Astons and such over there are RHD, people from other countries don't want them, so there's just the national market even for the rarer stuff.

I checked eBay and Craigslist and it looks like the prices here in the USA, which is in America, range from around $4000 to around $9000 for a late model. Lots of 2002-2004 models out there for under $5000. Also the odd manual out there, which I wish I'd bought.

Just to give an idea - my baby Jag was £1900 a year ago - 84,000 on the clock - and all wheel drive - manual box... yes there are quite a few of them in the UK but seldom is there more than one or two in any given car park - and that I love :-) I have *never* lost my Jag in a car park but have often lost Vectras and Focuses in the past to my wifes chagrin as we hunt for them lol.. prices have been going up in the UK secondhand market this year and I would be hard put to get my car now for less than £2000... now that x-types are no longer produced the secondhand market is going up - but still nonetheless, no other car offers as much for the money as a Jaguar! Thankfully not many people know that when they pay the same for a Ford or Vauxhall.. I often get comments about my baby Jag .. ' she's gorgeous', 'lovely car' etc - but seldom got more than comments such as 'a clean car' with anything else - But then I'm biased I guess ever since my first Jag a gorgeous XJ8 beckoned to me from a car dealers forecourt
