Help me spend my money
Hi Everyone,
I am currently in the market for two Jags. One is the 2003 X-Type with 110,000kmsfor $16,000CAD and a 2001 S-Type with 85,000 for $15,000CAD. Could you please provide me with your thoughts on these two cars? Do I have to take the car to a Jag dealer to have maintenance and repairs? Are these cars problematic? Any thoughts concerning the purchase of one of the aforementioned cars is appreciated.
Please to meet you,
Derek

RE: Help me spend my money
I bought a 2003 X type for $16900 cdn with only 14000 kms so that deal isnt all that good. Yes the car breaks down alot and the dealer is your best bet!!! They are very expensive to maintain though. I would buy a newer S type and only and R but that is me.
Good luck!!!
Good luck!!!

Welcome dasilva...There are a few things that should come into play when you are debating between the two...first way better deals can be had for the x-type I'm not too framiliar about the s-type value...with the price limit your looking at a s-type r is out of the question which its one of the only s-types I'd buy personally. For 16-17k you should easily be able to get a jag from a dealer or one still covered under warranty from someone else. I just noticed an 03-04 x-type sport that had low miles and was like 16k here in Michigan at a jag dealer and I'd imagine you could do the same up there just shop around and don't get ripped off...you jump into this situation and buy the first one you see chances are you will regret! If you get winters that you would like a car that is good in the snow I'd go with the x-type no matter what! Look also for a x-type that has dsc (dynamic stability control) this is kind of like traction control but wayyyy different and way better. The button for it is near the cup holder just below the bottom right of the shifter. The picture is of a car with swerve marks behind the tires. If the car has this it has dsc which is seriously a life saver in bad weather and it is a worthy option. If you find one with a warranty you can either buy an extended through jag that covers the car til 100k miles or they have a lesser one but I'd go for the 100k if you can find one that you can buy this for or one that already has one...any other help let us know...
BTW you didn't add your location as far as zip goes so I couldn't search for cars in your area...if you wanted give me this and I'll help look for you...

OUCH! Shop around mate. You can find WAY better deals for those prices. I would suggest the 03+ Xtype if you go in that direction, and if you go with the S-type, I'd go with the 3.0L V6 unless you go 2003 and up. The S-type will be the better car without a doubt, but for a Canadian the X-type would be the best because of the constant winter conditions. AWESOME winter car.
The S will not likely take a hit in the value area when the XF comes out because it already took a hit, just like any other car Jag to the bad market and bad rep from the Nikasil issue. When you think about the fact that basically EVERY car devalued a lot because of the bad market, you'll realize that you can have any car you want. Honestly, I regret buying impulsively because I could've saved a little more and gotten the 350Z that fits my personality and that I love. 350's are going for as low as 14-15K, and likewise, Jag's have taken a big hit. It honestly can't get much worse. We are finally getting out of the funk of the late 90's that did HORRIBLY for Jaguar. Good luck and happy shopping. Give us a zip like quil said and we'll find deals for you.
