Help? My car's headliner is sagging ALL OVER
Hello again dear Jaguar enthusiasts,
My 2007 x type Mona's headliner is sagging all over, front, back, posts, MASSIVELY after an abusive exposure to sun this summer. So --all over-- that I simply cannot fix it myself. Where can I go to have it professionally fixed as I did not find any shops around Honesdale, PA to be willing to do it. Should I better go to New York (with the risk of having my P 0133 trouble code on)? About how much could it cost me? Thank you very much.

I looked for an auto upholstery shop that specializes in classic cars and boat interiors. I'm in Minneapolis/St Paul and found www.allstarupholsterymn.com. I paid about $750 total to have an all new suede headliner installed.
I see that Dell sent you a link to some places in the West Chester area where I live. I had the first one on the list, M & A Upholstery, do my headliner and am very pleased with the results. It cost me $ 750.00, but would have been less without the sunroof. Bit of a drive for you.
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much all of you for addresses and estimate costs. I called meantime around my Northeast PA area and they want to look at the car, but anyway they warned me that the part should be requested from ... Detroit as there are not such (car's) parts available. Unfortunately all the top has to be replaced as the foam is crumbling if I rub it a little (to see if I can simply glue the fabric myself. Does anybody have a Northeast PA car upholstery repairs (recommendation as good and honest) address/es? Thank you.
I found a local shop in Tuckahoe that is going to do it next Thursday for $750. That seems to be the going rate. Not really a job you can do yourself if you want it to look right.

I have a 2002, X-type, 3.0, AT also with a sagging headliner (with moon roof). Here in the SF Bay Area, it’s almost impossible to find someone that will replace it under $800. Most auto upholstery shops are saying they won’t do a Jaguar X-type.
why? Because they say the X-type headliners are way too difficult to remove and re-install.

I would absolutely get it done for $400, but again this is the SF Bay Area, thus EVERYTHING costs twice as much or more than anywhere else.
Just went to a local auto upholstery shop and was told the headliners of X-types can’t be removed unless you remove the entire exterior, and the rear window glass. Otherwise the headliner fabric is removed and replaced in place, at least $800 and two days. Ugh!

Find the shop that needs the work, explain the above, and they will do it for less. Does not require a high level of expertise. Any shop that does this work can do it. Or you can eat the expense if you don't want to negotiate. Me, I've been in business too long to NOT negotiate.
Good luck!
Thanks, Meatbag for the recommended by you shop but for me that is not local at all being even further than New York, at its 3 hours distance location. Does the price of that shop include pillars and large selection of colors and fabrics?
Thanks Rbackzek for the concern that an x-type headliner is much different than any other car's headliner (it is not, I saw the youtube videos of such replacement which in no way would involve removal of windows). If it was summer, I would have done it myself but now it is too cold for such homemade experiments.Companies which sell headliners fabrics, including suede, show very many colors and I do not wish anything else than the platinum gray to match my seats and door panels.
Dennis Black tell me how it was your headliner job.. Will you also put new fabric over your pillars (both front and back)?
Thermo, what goodies do you have in your Santa'sbag, please, which addresses and eventual credentials?
When I was younger I put new black plush headliner and seats covers on my TransAm. But that was long ago when I was running fast. Now.... hmm.
I will look for closer to me shops next week when it does not rain ... locally. Which it now does and I will let you know the outcome.
Best wishes,
Marcela

I used to replace headliners professionally in my younger years. It's actually not that hard. Removing the headliner can be tedious, but I've gotten them out in some tight situations. You can order the material online. You need to make sure you remove all the old foam and use the correct adhesive. We always used contact cement, but 3M makes a headliner adhesive that's rated for the high temps of car interiors. Don't use regular spray adhesive. It will fail in the heat and headliner will come down. I'm actually about to do mine in a '04 X-Type. I'll let you know how it goes.
