Thanks, Meatbag for the recommended by you shop but for me that is not local at all being even further than New York, at its 3 hours distance location. Does the price of that shop include pillars and large selection of colors and fabrics?
Thanks Rbackzek for the concern that an x-type headliner is much different than any other car's headliner (it is not, I saw the youtube videos of such replacement which in no way would involve removal of windows). If it was summer, I would have done it myself but now it is too cold for such homemade experiments.Companies which sell headliners fabrics, including suede, show very many colors and I do not wish anything else than the platinum gray to match my seats and door panels.
Dennis Black tell me how it was your headliner job.. Will you also put new fabric over your pillars (both front and back)?
Thermo, what goodies do you have in your Santa'sbag, please, which addresses and eventual credentials?
When I was younger I put new black plush headliner and seats covers on my TransAm. But that was long ago when I was running fast. Now.... hmm.
I will look for closer to me shops next week when it does not rain ... locally. Which it now does and I will let you know the outcome.
Best wishes,
Marcela
BTW: I'm also a fan of the Trans Am. Owned a 1988 GTA. We always had F-Bodies growing up. My First car was a 1984 Camaro Berlinetta with digital dash T-Tops, and the H.O. VIN V-8. Anyway. I could go on and on. Off Topic
I bought a box of these upholstery pins for $3. It won't solve the problem but for me it moved the headliner from a big problem to something I need to worry about in a few months.
Has anyone done the headliner on a wagon? Seems easier to maneuver in and out but is obviously more material.
Suburbanautoparts sells genuine x type headliner sportwagon
Your piercing your headliner board with these pins to get vintage diamond shape of the old sagging fabric by outside pierces the (fragile) plastic of the board inside. Suburbanautoparts.com/oem-parts/jaguar headliner sells the clean OEM C2D50117LFJ for sportwagon x-type for $730.08, like jaguarenglewood.com, in case you will want to get rid of the pierced old headliner board later in a few months. A Jaguar and a pin fixed jag headliner? Hmm.
Got my 2006 X-type back from Automotive Upholstery in Tuckahoe NY today. They did a beautiful job redoing the headliner, sunroof cover, and the C pillars.
$750+tax. They did a great job. They were also the only ones I could find doing auto upholstery here in Westchester County.
Ron said Jaguars and LRs are infamous for collapsing headliners, and he's seen quite a few.
Sadly, I've been noticing the 2004 XJR's headliner is starting to go too. At least now I know where to take it when it finally gives out and sags.
Holland, this is a great job. As for me, people whom I saw, did not return my calls after we agreed about the job including selection of the fabric and of the other two around the area, one does not do headliners and the other had a wrong telephone number listed. As the weather is getting colder, I am forced to wait for a better weather next year. Very sad. Send me some encouraging private message with feasible technical details if you can. Thank you.
Nice work Holland, thanks for the pictures. Where did you get the material? Did you get something matching factory original? I'm considering tackling this job but the pillars look fine so I was hoping to avoid that. I'm a little worried about the colors not looking right if I don't also do the pillars.
One more Q for anyone who has done the headliner on a wagon - the workshop manual says the rear hatch seal must be removed, and when the headliner is reinstalled the seal has to be replaced with a new one. Ouch, that's an extra $200 added to the job. Why would the seal have to be replaced?

I used to get the material at JoAnn Fabrics. This time I just ordered from amazon. Obviously I couldn't check the color match, but since I was doing the pillars I wasn't too worried about being exact on the color
