Definitely a first for me too. I'd guess that somehow the switch went bad. But as vegas said, does it still move back and forth, just with no effect? Or is it frozen in place?
For the time being I'd take out the high beam bulbs so you can drive as night without pissing everyone off.

Some possibilities...

1. The main beam / fog light relay contacts might have been "welded" closed. You can swap this relay with the dip beam relay and see if the low beams stay on, in which case, replace that relay.

2. The lighting control module is "latched up" or failed. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes may clear up the problem.

3. The high beam switch contact in the turn signal switch is stuck closed. Does it make operate mechanically the way it should?

Not much else that could cause the high beams to stay on.

If you want to turn off the high beams to avoid blinding oncoming traffic, pull the "main beam" fuses.

what does dead switch mean?
-----------------------------------

ok this is the issue. you know how u pull back on the stick to click the high beam into place? thats what i did at 12am the other night... while doing it.. i say to myself that def didnt sound right... and yes now it wont go "off" high beams; essentialy it moves back and forth with no effect.... i feel that i clicked it too hard or something.

took it to the good ol dealership. my technician says buy the 110 dollar hi low beam part, and few screws off the wheel asselmbly will do the trick...

-----------------------------------------

pull the "main beam" fuses... where is the fuse box in this vehicle?

--------------------------------

any suggestions?

Central junction fuse box is located under the dash on the driver's side, near hood release lever. Main beam fuses F85 and F86 are the two 7.5A fuses next to the last (15A) fuse at the right end of the second row of fuses from the bottom.....or just read the owners manual.

ok friends, i have pulled the fuses in the engine compartment bay... so the dash/speedo tach displays a high beam on... but i pulled the fuses so they arent actually on...ill wait to replace the part... its 110 from the jaguar dealership... so thats definatly work in progress...

alright pros... just a subjective question... is taking out the fuses a smart or stupid approach? in the future <i hope recent> i will order the part and install it, however for the timebeing a solution was neccesary...

i dont understand what you mean...

The main beam / fog light relay (R15) is located in the central junction fuse box (where you removed the fuses). The dip beam relay (R9) is located in the power distribution fuse box (left side of engine compartment). Both relays are plug-in components and appear to be identical. You can swap these relays (after first verifying they have the same part number). If after swapping the relays, your high beams still don't turn off, then you will have eliminated the relay as a possible cause. If the low beams don't turn off, then the contacts in the original main beam / fog light relay are stuck closed.

So it's the column switch.

If the column switch wiring had an earth on them, or the general module was goosed then the mains would have stayed on...according to the wiring diagram.

Got a replacement for £15 from Evilbay.
Single retaining clip on the top and off it comes, no need to remove steering wheels or anything.

Start to finish 13 minutes.

All sorted now.

i have the same problem , so can you give me more detail ? some picture would be great . and the ebay link too ,
thanks a lot !1
