Default HID digital kits

I am researching HID kits and saw one that says it is digital and the brain is about half the size of the standard units. With space being an issue in the x type anyone have an idea if this is a good pick? ANy experts on HID out there?

The problem is not space for the "brain" but the space for your hands to fit and replace the bulbs. Where did you see these HID kits?

I had run across these: http://www.gremlynsgarage.com/produc...products_id=61

The 35w are $120 and the 55w ballasts are $150. The brand is DDM.

This also Dave from http://www.dxhid.com/exesdigitalhidkits.htm

Great customer support but fairly pricey.

Both of these companies offer the digital ballasts technology in 35w or 55w.

Honestly I'm not sure which I need. What is the difference between the 35w and the 55w versions? Is one brighter than the other?

35w is what you want. 55w can melt some of the plasic pieces in the X-Type.

A 35w HID light at 4500k emits 3400 Lumens while a 55w HID light emits 5000 Lumens.

Bottom line the 55w HID is brighter!
A standard 55w Halogen bulb produces 900-1200 Lumens in comparison, so at the 4500K temp scale the 55w HID kit would be ~5 times or 500%brighter!

JVEGAS, how do you figure a 55w HID kit will melt plastic pieces in the housing when a 55w Halogen would produce the same if not more heat and does not melt the housings?
The Xenon plasma arc is a more efficient way of producing light output versus halogen filaments hence the increased lighting while running less power to achieve it. The efficiency as seen as Lumens/Watts would work out to a 5000 Lumen HID kit running 55watts would be 5000/55 = 90.9% efficiency. While a 1200 Lumen Halogen bulb at 55watts would be 21.8% efficient.

Hmmm, the 55w option was not available when I purchased an aftermarket kit for my Jeep. Can't say i've had any problems with the kit that I bought, and the new 55w kit may or may not cause problems. I think the statement here would be that the 35w is tried and true, with very few problems....the 55w kit is just more of a risk IMO.

I would go 35. I would only go 55w if it was from a good source, someone who doesnt sellcheap kits this way it might be more reliable

I got a 6000k HID kit from Korzen. It only pulls 4amps in stead of 10 for the halogen, andputs out 2,300 to 3,200lumens (depending on what color you choose) it is a 35w

They look great andare bright as hell

The melting didn't happen in housing (as far as I can remember) it was just the connector that plugs into the back of the bulb.

Try this kit, the price is great shipping is hit or miss, mine still work a year and a half later. My buddy paid twice what I paid and he's had more problems with his than I have mine...Make sure you specify correctly which kit you need and don't mess up, otherwise the shipping will kill you trying to fix your screw up...type in there a few times exactly what kit you want so there's no way of them screwing it up...

Aquill1

You know I contacted him about his auction to find out if he had what I wanted and told hiim I got his name from the forum. He quoted me $135, which I said "what". I e-mailed him back to ask why it was almost twice as much and didn't get a response, made me a little mad.

What? Just go onto ebay and do a buy-it-now on one of the kits and make sure you put whatever kit you want. It's actually a pretty nice kit without taking in the low cost of the kit. I didn't expect it to be as nice as it was when it got to me. They are generally pretty quick in response or there is little if any response. I had a problem with my lights where I'd have my lights on auto and I'd turn the key and than actually start it and the drivers light wouldn't come on. I emailed them and they emailed me back right away.
