Are the "holes" below the headlights? If so, the car has headlight washers and the covers have fallen off--common problem. The washers will not work properly if the covers are missing.

phineas, unfortuantely, remounting hte covers is not possible, so, the only "solution" for this is to buy new headlight washer assemblies and they are like $100 each. Installing them isn't hard, but it does involve pulling off the front bumper cover.

There is a guy in the UK who makes replacement headlamp washer cover clips which solve the problem of the covers falling off.

Apparently you can "catch" the washers by standing in front of the headlight, lights on, car running & in drive if an auto, get someone to press the windscreen washer repeatidly (I beleive it's 7 or 8 times, in 2 second bursts) the headlight washer comes out & you have to grab it, hold it in place to stop it retracting, then you can replace these cross shaped clips, & re-mount the cover.

So i've heard anyhow...

Here is the seller on ebay.co.uk Jaguar X-type headlight washer cover clip | eBay UK

The original pieces are plastic, & eventually they break. The alloy replacements last forever.

There has been a number of discussions on the UK forum about it.

I lost mine to and I refuse to pay $100 or more just to lose them again so I made my own. Hope they look alright.

Could also be the cover for the tow hook.
Front and rear bumper has a small cover which when removed reveals the hidden towing hook

My driver side cover was broken off by a car wash place. I was very mad and the manager said he would pay up 50 buck to have it replaced. I figured it was enough and was browsing later that night for a replacement. When I realized it was 100 bucks I flipped out. So long story short never going back to that car wash.
