Default How about these rotors?

Hey guys,
I think i might have a slightly warped rotor in the front so im looking to replace them.

What have you guys heard regarding ebc brakes? i know its been mentioned here a few times before.

Also here is a link of the rotors i would like to get:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EBC-B...Q5fAccessories

what are the pros and cons of slotted brakes?

any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jaggyx

Always a topic for heated discussion.

I love them, they look great and very functional, especially married up to EBC Redstuff brake pads ( check them out if you haven't already )
Also check out the X type FAQ quick links for mostly every post made about brakes / rotors / pads etc etc etc
According to some that have owned them they can be a little noisy under braking? Gonna paint your calipers at the same time Jaggyx?

If you do buy them try EBC direct and try typing in scooby58 at the checkout for a 15% discount if it still works!

Well said Jim. I won't add too much since this has been covered many times.

In short, I have them on 3 cars. No problems on any of them. I find them to be a quality part for a good price. They can make a rub or squeak noise a little with ceramic pads, although not all the time. I run mine on the X with Centric ceramic pads - great lifespan and almost zero dust.

aint no slots on them F1 cars..... all about good material. Cheap steel on cheap rotors dont develop proper friction with the pads.
EBC seem to use good steel. slots are a gimmick.

Default EBC Slotted Rotors

I have EBC slotted rotors and Red Stuff pads on my X-Type and like them very much.

Search the board and you will find a very detailed posting I did on replacing the rotors and pads. It might save you a bit of time and will give you some tips for doing the job right the first time.

Good luck.

It's possible that your rotor is not actually warped but has a build up of residue from the pads. Your local garage will most likely be able to remove this with a rotary sanding pad in no time flat. It's worth a try.

wow quick responses guys, thanks for all your help! i do also think they look good jim. as for painting the calipers, i already painted them red but i didnt like the contrast between the red calipers and my zircon paint so i painted them back to silver so they look a little more OEM.

Wild Bill, i will look for that post. im sure it will help me greatly in the future.

Mikey, when i brake at highway speeds 65+ MPH i feel my steering wheel shake side to side. This led me to believing that i had a warped rotor. Could this still be a result of build up on the pads?

Lol...good call (IMO) anyways on the calipers
My car also being Zircon blue I decided that the red was too boy racerish for my tastes and also went with silver for a clean but stock look and was well pleased!

Dunno if you fancy them to round off the look but you can get Jaguar dust valve covers in stainless steel with the Jag logo on them

Could be pad residue I guess, but if your rotors / pads are anywhere near halfway through their lifespan and you have it in your head to change them might be the ideal time to spoil her a little? I think I'm right in saying that those rotors are amodises too to prevent them rusting up!!
Those slotted rotors with clean silver calipers peeking from behind freshly cleaned detailed alloys and tyres all blacked up
Mmmmm - drooling just thinkin bout it on a freshly cleaned / detailed car.....lol
Sad I know but I'm built that way..

Any thoughts on these ebay rotors? I like the way they look and the price but I'm sure the performance will suffer...

well might i say good call on the calipers jim!
and yeah i might just change them up in the near future.

also about gotti15's post, are those rotors any good? will there be performance loss? a safety issue? i'm a real safety guy, and thats the only thing stopping me from buying rotors of ebay.

will they be just as good as any other rotors? and insight please?

Yes, that's exactly the symptoms I had. It's worth a shot.

Warped rotors could be the problem. Easy enough to check with a straightedge. Also take a moment to examine your suspension in the front, check for loose or cracked bushings or hardware.

I have a writeup with pics for the EBC swap on my blog page: http://mydrive.roadfly.com/blog/ChrisX/
