Default How easy is removing front half shaft?

Morning all.
I noticed the rubber boot on the leftside front cv/halfshaft has disappeared!.
I ordered a new shaft which arrives on tuesday.
It looks like a straightforward job but knowing jaguar... Im wondering if there are any pitfalls to the job?
Any advice?
Thanks

iownme, DO NOT!!!! pull the half shaft out of the transfer case/tranny. There is a slip joint between the half shaft and where it goes into the transfer case/tranny. If you pull it out at the tranny/transfer case, then you are going to damage some seals inside which then becomes a big mess. After that, the rest is pretty straight forward.

iownme, the local auto parts store should have a tool that you can rent for free (pay a deposit on the tool, you get the whole deposit back when you return the tool) that will kinda look like 2 pickle forks. These will have some device that will allow them to slide together and pull apart. Near the tranny/transfer case, there should be what looks like a score mark in the "half shaft". This is where the half shaft slides into the piece that goes into the tranny/transfer case. You can get an idea of where this will be by looking at the new shaft and getting an idea of where this line will be. There will then be 2 pieces that you can slide the pickle forks up against and allow you to pull that score mark apart, separating the 2 pieces from each other.

Thankyou Thermo
I have a friend helping and he mentioned he would be bringing a tool (sounds like what you describe)
He said it slides in and "unlocks" that ring
(There is a nice green sport on ebay right now ;@)

The OP wants to replace the left hand shaft, that is the easy one. Its the right hand shaft that needs care and can damage internal seals if not done correctly.

Yes, the boot could be replaced, but as the shaft has to come off to do that, and old shaft had 172000 miles (1000 without the protective boot) i thought best to just replace...new one was only $65.
And yes... It was left side not right ;@)
Job was pretty easy, took about an hour
Thanks for all the input
