How to identify where munufactured

Morning all,
First post on here.
I'm an expat living in New Zealand but couldnt find an NZ based forum.
I'm looking at buying my first Jag and am considering either an X or S type
which would be 2001 to 2003.
In NZ we get an awfull lot of jap imports and from reading one or two articles
from the web i am led to believe that some wre manufactured in Singapore
and these are to be avoided as they are not upto the standard of those built elsewhere.
has anyone got any thoughts on this ?
Also is there any way of identifying where a car was manufactured, is there
a designation on the vin plate or elsewhere on the car that i should look for ?

Pretty sure X Types were only ever made at Halewood,England as they exported them worldwide from there.Car park had cars bound for the Middle East and Japan when we visited.
If the 1st character of the VIN is an S on the car you're looking at then its definately made in England:-
VIN Character 1 - Manufacturing Country Codes
1 or 4 = USA
2 = Canada
3 = Mexico
J = Japan
K = Korea
S = England
W = Germany
Z = Italy
