I love the leaper. I am pretty saddened by the new models not having it anymore, but the new designs are absolutely beautiful and I can live with those cars not having it anymore.

I am saddened by the thought that Mercedes might be losing its star hood ornament, but it might be a while down the road until that happens.

I used to complain about the new models not having it but, now I love the look. It signifies class, but not bragging about it. But ont he older models, i think its a must

there are a few things that make a Jaguar a Jaguar, one is the leaper, another is the overall styling. Personally the new XJ and XK look nothing like Jaguars, the XK hasn't for a few years now. All in all the new cars I find boring.

I forgot to answer the question. Yes I like it, everyone that sees my car always looks at the leaper then says "nice Jaguar"

You should have enough play in the cable to actually reverse the leaper so it faces the other way. I think the cable system is designed to minimize hood damage when it is ripped off by a thief/vandal.

Base held on by large white plastic nut plus the adhesive on the bottom of the base. Leaper held onto base by spring tension & cable.

Search & you'll see many threads on DIY replacing the leaper.

The base has a "pin" that goes into the hole for alignment but the aftermarket had it in a different place slightly further back. .
You bought the WRONG leaper which is why the holes did not line up.
Or a Chinese knock off from an unscrupulous eBay seller. There are a few different leapers. Depends on model & Year of Jag. 5" ones 6" ones, etc.

You can search & find many threads on how to remove & replace your leaper.

Glad it worked out OK for you but, don't want others to think you s/b drilling holes for a simple leaper replacement.
