How to remove leaper?
I am thinking of removing the leaper and then fitting a S-type grill emblem over the original mounting holes. It looks like all I need to remove the entire leaper (the base and the cat) is a 24mm deep well socket. Can anyone confirm this for me? Also, once the base is gone will the emblem shown below be big enough to cover the holes that are left? Obviously I'll have to remove the posts on the back of the emblem.

shyjump....the proper socket is a 15/16 deep socket... and i dont think that emblem will work, never tried but the emblem has to much curve to it... that part of the hood is straighter...

Hey there skyjump...........I saw a beautiful black X the other day ( we dont tend to have leapers on our cars over this side of the pond)
and he had the same emblem on the bonnet where the leaper would be. I thought it looked kinda nice ( a bit much too with the growler there I thought)
Not sure of the curvature of the body comapred to the S though?
Anyways...........good luck whatever

Thanks for the replies and the warm welcome! I actually ordered that emblem (it was only $25) so I'll let you know how it goes. The back looks to be flat so I think it might work. On the other hand the leaper is growing on me and everyone I've mentioned it to says it wouldn't be a Jag without it (little do they know that they don't come with one on the other side of the pond).
I think its cos in the states not too many people know much about jags. If you say to someone thatyou own an X, S-Type, XJ, XK theyll say whats that?

they are more exclusive then a bmw ora benz thats for sure. But cos of he crappy resale value, a lot of people are buying em now. If i only knew about the resale value when i got mine, cud have just bougt a few month old car and saved 1000's
. Now im just going to have to keep my car until it dies, no point in trying to sell it as i wont get even close to what i think its worth. And when it dies, i think im goin to have to restore it and keep it as a side project. dont think i cud ever get tired of this car

I'm 28 and wifey is 29. We definitely took advantage of the "crappy resale value." Our 2005 X with 25k miles only cost $19,150 (it was sitting in aBMW dealer's used car section and listed at $23,000). It practically feels like we stole it for that price...I'm not complaining though.

I'm 20, make less than 40K a year and I have a Jag! I'd say mission accomplished!

Yeah mission accomplished...I'm 22 21 when I got her...my wife just turned 21...I have no job and I own a jag...oh wait that shows the horrible resale value not how successful I am!!!
Haha, i got mine when i was 18, well a month away from 19. I got screwed in to the buying a new car as i was so young to know better. Oh well, i still love the car and cant complain
ahhh I see...how old were you again...and which did you serve? They gave you a pretty good signing bonus I'd assume
One guy we were talking to was going on his second or third tour and was getting 80k for a sign on as well as other bonuses...
