I'm gunna be 18 right about the start of senior year.

Hey man let's stop the ragging on owning a jag in high school. I saved every penny I ever got all thru my life, and put all that 2000 dollars into paying my dad for half of my xj40...and I'm working this very minute to make the other 1950 to completly own my car by the start of the school year.

Unfortunatly the ladies don't understand the xj40, I had more game with the mustang...but i love this car.

Jim we're just all super polite compared to those rude Europeans. lol, j/p

True that. hey but look at it this way, u got one now...once I go off on my own I probably won't be able to buy a jag for a while after my car stops working. I'm planning on being a pilot, which is 4 years of low to no income during college, and most pilots make aroung 16,000 a year there first like 2 years. Then ur talking like 30-50 thousand for the first decade. Hopefully i will never do worse then a Jag tho...cuz I will never drive a japanese car.

This threaded wandered all over but didn't answer the original question. How do you remove the leaper base?

I removed the nylon nut on my 2005 X-Type, expecting the leaper assembly to fall into my hands. No, it's glued on or there is a trick fastener somewhere. Another thread said something about prying the base off the hood, but I want to remove it without damage.

One more time. How do you remove the leaper base?

Does this help?

Use some fine cut polish over the area after using some goof off to remove the leftover adhesive. Cut the little tab off the bottom of the new badge with a dremel as it is in the wrong place for the two holes you are left with on the hood.

Pull off the tape on the bottom of the badge and lower the larger tab into the big hole. Hold down for a minute. Polish up the area you cut polished. Done...

Imagine that you are a felon, just strolling through the 'hood, when you see a leaper. "Cool! I want that!" Do you just grab on and give it a tug? Or will you need some supplemental drugs, or maybe a wire cutter?

In other words, how vulnerable is the leaper to theft?

All good advice but use the sockets. And, wow, a Jag at a youthful age! I won't argue with it-I gave my 2005 S Type to my daughter for college graduation a couple of years ago. Now she wants a Range Rover (damn fool!)-no way I'm touching that! And to think I had a Crosley Hot Shot for my first hs car...about 45 years ago! Jim-thanks for taking care of your enlisted men-you'll find most of them very polite!

Smile Thank you Guys, Norri and Searanch and dental floss!

Kudos, to you all, I've been tarting up my baby and my Girl was talking about her Jeep and how the decals especially the overland decals on the doors were naff and really worn.
Well I was nervous about taking them off until I saw this interesting thread and each post has it's own merits! I was going to attack the jeep and steam or use a hairdryer to take off the decals but a nag in my mind was this vehicle is ten years old and am I going to take off the paint with the decal when i do it.
Now, i can sleep easy thanks to the dental floss idea!
I am chuffed and thank the lucky stars to you guys and the forum, however I sometimes wish I was spoilt ha ha, but then I am .....
I own a jaguar I am mad proud about!!!
10/10 Norri, Your homework is much appreciated! Cheers!
Regards to all of you! Stu

Instead of floss, because I didn't have any on me at work, I smashed down and creased a Mcdonald's straw with my teeth and used that to saw underneath the base. It worked really well and it's strong enough to wiggle and pull the base up off of the bonnet.
