Default I did a search for bosch platinum +4 and on one site it wasn't available for the x

I've used it on many of my cars and noticed a smoother idle, which could just be because I changed them, but I just changed them on my z4 and the mileage improved instantly on what the display says. Just curious if they do make them for our 2.5L engines.

I've had much better luck with NGKs then I have ever had with Bosch plugs. Replaced mine with NGKs and the original plugs IMO should have been changed at 60k not 100k

Yeah, it seems waiting 100k miles no matter what plugs we use isn't good. I bought the car with 97k miles on it, so I will change the plugs asap. I bought the champion iridiums that Pepboys had. They were the most expensive ones they had for it, so hopefully they are fine.

Smile Plus 4 spark plugs

I'd be cautious with using these type of plug in any cars, I have read several article these plugs has scorched pistons. I would use the plus 2 plug but not the 4's. Each article I read suggested to go to a colder plug is your going to use the plus 4, no so with the plus 2

Adam, I ran the Bosch +4's on my Expedition and noticed no change with the fancy plug. maybe it is the lower tech engine that I wasn't seeing the benefit, but at the same time, with the newer engines, the need for a multi-spark plug is not needed unless you are planning on lots of high RPM time. But then, that is a different beast in itself.

But, that is just my 2 cents on the subject. Your car, you do as you see fit. Just passing on my experience.

Smile Spark Plugs

I use whatever the owners manual says to use in the car.

The benefits of multi electrode spark plugs has been discussed and debated seemingly forever. Does anybody remember Lodge spark plugs? The general consensus going way back was that a surface gap plug like the Lodge could possibly offer an advantage in an engine that was prone to plug fouling and I believe found use in aircraft engines during WWII. Alfa Romeo used to spec Lodge plugs in their cars however I swapped back and forth between Lodge and Champion plugs with no discernable difference in mileage or performance. The thing to remember is that when the coil collapses the spark is only going to jump across one gap. If you want to believe that having more than one place for the spark to travel offers some advantage that's certainly fine, but in an otherwise healthy engine the benefits are going to be pretty hard to find.

I wonder if it isn't so much that the multi gap helps the spark at any one time, but more that as the surface over time builds up resistance do to carbon build up and pitting and anything else that can happen over time, that perhaps having more surface offers a place for the spark to jump to with less resistance. I'm assuming the spark will choose the path of least resistance, but I'm no scientist. When I looked at my platinum plugs, the tip was perfect, but the piece that bends out past the tip showed wear, meaning missing metal. I've changed plugs for years and this is normal. On a multi gap, there is less wear per gap probably because like the previous post said the spark can only travel to one spot. I'm thinking they don't exist as some sort of hoax since the price for them is the same or less than iridiums and other nice plugs. We measure how clean water is by parts per million, so it is probably the same if we say sparks per million figuring on a single hour of driving the car probably has a couple million sparks. So it's more the wear over the thousands of miles of driving that might show any difference. My Z4 showed an instant difference in mileage, but the only way to compare would be to drive on the +4s for the next 100k. I don't know how long the iridiums were in there before I changed them.
