cold start valve

cold start valve
So the very nice jaguar mechanic said my cold start valve is bad on my 1987 jaguar xj6. It is kinda hard to start.
From the online pictures, it doesn't really look like there's much to the part, but I haven't pulled it out of the car to look, yet. Is this something I can clean off myself or is the internal valve portion the part that goes bad?
Finally, I found a used original part for around $50 from either Jagbits or one of the other references from the forum (the name escapes me at the moment), and new Wells Part No. CSV54 from Advance Auto that looks suspiciously like the used one for $132 that says its compatible with only an older BMW 3 series.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. (I did search the forum, but never found part numbers, except for the Lucas and Bosch that don't seem to be around anymore.)
thanks.

Some have used a strong cleaning agent dripped into the injector and a 9v battery to cycle the injector open and closed....and reported good results. Worth a try.
The design is very common and was used on many cars Bosch injected cars of the era....just calibrated for various engine sizes
Cheers
