Default Ideas please.

New Jaguar owner (previously RangeRover owner) bought for practicality, as it’s a deisel estate, and my other car is a wrx S prodrive

had the car about two weeks, got it for a stupidly low price, because engine light was on and I read the codes and showed EGR voltage issue.
Resetting the codes just puts the ECM light out for a few miles then it comes back on.
so first thing I’ve done is remove the EGR and soaked it in DPF and EGR cleaner from Motoquip
had good results with this on other projects, and it’s worked a charm again. Now drives with no management light on. There was a spacer in the EGR metal pipe with a small center hole which I’m assuming is an aftermarket type of restriction plate to ‘supposedly’ help keep the intake cleaner?
anyone use one of these, are they actually doing any good or should I pull it out and put it back to stock?

now for the help needed. The vehicle simply does not show any temp on the gauge. A few times I’ve seen it rise JUST off the blue but only momentarily.
i have replaced:
genuine Jag thermostat and housing
genuine Jag oil thermostat valve (in water pump)
genuine coolant sensor behind the power steering pulley ,not too hard with a split 15mm socket) but alas still no reading.
i bridged the connector for that sender unit and the temp gauge did nothing, but the heater coil symbol flashed on and off in the dash.
ive got heat in the cabin. So engine is getting to temp ok, but this gauge seems to be fubar!
before I shell out on a new dash pod, does anyone have any ideas please,
car runs fine, it’s just annoying
Thanks

Yes, the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor seems to the the most likely culprit, as Dell suggests.

I just thought it would be cool, if your Jag had rims, which are designed with 3 legs, acting like 3 big spokes... - since that is the flag of the Isle of Man...
And did you know that Sicily has a very similar flag?

hi thanks

yes I’ve replaced the ECT behind the power steering pulley already.

three spoke wheels would be nice but not sure how practical they would be with our roads!! Yes there’s a few countries that have the Triskelion as their flag symbol, here on the Isle of Man we are the longest running government in the world. Dating back to Viking era

as for the issue, I’ll try resetting the dash by disconnecting the battery, if that doesn’t work then I suppose it must be the dash itself
