I have a X 2.5 v6 2001.
Changing the standard radio and when leads not connected engine immobilised and cigarette lighter ac does not come on is this a common thing for immobiliser to be through the radio leads.

When I took out my radio to do the GPS upgrade the Engine qould not turn over
This was on a 2006 so I assume this is part of the immobilizer circuit. Kind of sucks if you get your radio stolen.

 

I suppose being immobilized because someone stole your radio would suck, but I'd have to go back to 1980 to get my radio stolen around these parts.

Everybody's got alarms and GPS, and auto theft and break-ins have gone way down compared to the good old days.

Driving down the FDR in the late 70's you used to pass burnt-out hulks in every pull-off, and on half the streets too - and had to worry about where you parked.
