Indicators and Main Beam not working - FIXED
Hi all,
My indicators and main beam have decided to stop working as from yesterday (X-Type 2.5 2002).
I've done a ton of research on the net, and found some other people saying it's fuse 35. However, fuse 35 is not a fuse but a diode or maybe a circuit breaker but it does not say what type it is.
Does anyone have any idea what it is, or if this fuse ID is the correct one?
Many thanks
Luke

Just check all of your fuses, or if you want to be more systematic, there should be a fuse diagram in your manual and I think there is one on the back of the fuse box inside of the vehicle. Might be a fuse, but it might be the switch itself. I've heard of those going out too, but you can get one from a scrapyard for cheap

Hi disguay,
Thanks for your comment.
I worked out that both indicators and main beam run from the General Electronic Module (GEM).
Using this information, it related to fuse 25 (F25) which is a 15A fuse. Swapped it out, and everything started working again. Simple fix but could of been a lot worse.
Cheers

Ok so I have just checked:
Audible warnings are working (Door open ect)
Interior lighting is working
Wash/Wipe system is working
Security System I guess is working e.g. central locking ect, doors auto lock after driving off
I've replaced the fuse in the mean time just so that I have indicators but a bit of a concern. I checked all the other fuses and they are fine. Anything else I can check?

luca, if you loose your lights yet the wipers, door locks, and stuff like that still works, then your problem isn't the fuse blowing, but something else. I would venture to guess that you have a wire that has had the insulation rubbed off of it and when you drive around with your lights on, this wire makes intermittent contact and therefore causes the GEM to see a problem and it shuts down part of the GEM module. But, I am looking at what you are saying and trying to come up with a way that it would happen. As to where the wiring is damaged, that is hard to say. I would say to start with where you have had work done on the car recently and then go from there.

luca, if you want to troubleshoot this down to a specific component, let me know and I will assist you with this. The only thing I need to know is your ability to use a multimeter. From the sounds of things, with a few checks, we will have this figured out. Then the question comes down to what will need to be replaced.
