Default Installing heated seats

Has anybody installed heated seats in their x? Jaguar's lack of including this except with a package has given my wife her only complaint about driving it. From reading here I have come to the conclusion that the wiring harness isn't there which makes an aftermarket set up much more appealing. Has anybody done it or had it done?

I mentioned here in another thread that i had the "pleasure" of replacing the heated seat element once in a Volvo I once owned. It was NOT a fun job at all un-upholstering the leather seats!

If mine go bad on the X, then I'll just buy a Snuggie and save the cash!

Nope. Considered it for a time, I remember inquiring at the dealer and being $tunned at the reply.

If it's not too big of a visual deterrent, I've seen some fairly decent looking aftermarket seat covers that have the elements in them. Cover the whole seat and run off of a 12v outlet. Wire in an outlet under the seat or something and probably have a heated seat out the door for $100 without much driveway drama with hog ring pliers and stiff leather (this time of year). Take them back off when the weather warms up.

Not ideal, but may very well get the job done.

Isn't there an airbag in there? I bought her a cushion for now. It looks like crap.

Yeah there should be an airbag in there for the lumbar support.

This one isn't terribly offensive: http://www.brookstone.com/heated-car...:referralID=NA

It would have looked horrid on my Ivory interior of my old X, but if you have black or charcoal seats, meh....no biggie.

A question, but would the wiring harness not be there for the this, seems odd to me and more expensive for Jag to have multiple wiring harness' depending on the options. Would it not just be a question of adding relays, switches and the actual heat elements? I had an 02 3 series Bimmer and it had pretty much everything pre-wired, I added fog lights and all I did was plug into existing wires, got the stock switches and they plugged right in and added a relay into the relay box where it said fog light. And it worked.

very possible / probable sidewalkman.....I've seen it with my Audi A6 and similar versions that may not have footwell lights / puddle lights etc.....turns out all the wiring and even the holder is there, just no bulb!

Oh I wouldn't do it. I'll pay a shop to do it. I don't like airbags ever since the scar on my face. I would have thought the wiring would be there to but from a couple threads I read it doesn't appear to be. If it is the easiest solution for me would be junkyard seats. IMO it is a glaring omission by Jaguar on the X

The air bags shouldn't be an issue. BUT there is one thing to keep in mind on any car when you screw with the seats on a SRS equiped car. You will have to pull the seat so you should disconnect the battery, but remember when you unplug all the electronics from the bottom of the seat don't even put the key in the ignition, if you turn the car over it will mess with the ECM and you will have a CEL forever.
