Default Coolant temp gauge

So, as we all know the stock coolant temp gauge is good to tell us either "your car is running okay" or.... "your car has overheated" without actually telling you how close to over heating you really are.

So, does anyone know of a more accurate temp gauge that can easily be installed, without looking much different than the factory one?

Thanks all

Look up "RealGauge" for one solution. Or just use the Torque app on Android.

Here is my RealGauge page: XK8 / XKR / XJ RealGauge - TheJagWrangler

It uses the factory gauge and converts it to operate properly.

Awesome, thanks guys!

Looks like it is very nearly (almost?) plug and play sort of?

And what is the TORQUE app?

It is six wire taps and two plug-and-play connectors. These are the wire taps included in the kit: Posi-Tap- No Crimp Tap

They are extremely reliable and only make a tiny pinhole in the wire. And I am always around in case you have a question.

Awesome! I will give it a try.

Now, I see there is one with the oil pressure gauge, is that an option for the XJ8?

I have the prototype XJ Realgauge and it's a serious upgrade, it is a very easy install with walkthrough instructions. Love mine.

Torque is a phone/tablet App that gives OBD scan readings and a whole host of real-time sensor monitors, I've played with it and its a useful and handy tool, but not integrated into the car like the realgauge.

No, the XJ X308 never offered an oil pressure option.
You can add an generic aftermarket electrical oil pressure gauge kit and mount one on the dash or A-pillar if you want. I sell an adapter for a standard 1/8 NPT thread aftermarket sensor to fit the Jag 4.0 engine on my website.

It is plug and play to the extreme. I've got one for each of my Jags, a 1999 VDP and a 2003 XJR. The kits are *very* complete and have clear instructions. The 1999 kit and the 2003 kits were different to account for the model year differences. Once installed they act the same and it looks completely stock. I did each of mine in relaxed afternoon.

It is a very impressive product and it just works. I'm just a satisfied customer.

I put one in my XJR, plug and play, yes!

The best way to cook your engine in our cars is to overheat them and the factory gauge stays firmly in the middle until things get really serious.

In addition to getting the "real" temperature reading of your coolant, you also get a high temp audio alarm that goes off if the temps approach the high side.
