Default Installing Positive Cable

I've recently had the occasional, intermittent alternator light. My battery is good, and everything else is fine. After a several mile drive, I went to check the battery cables. The positive one was red hot -too hot to touch. So I ordered a new positive cable. Upon considering how to install it, I have become a bit stumped as to how to attach the end to the alternator. The starter part looks easy, but the alternator is buried over top of the a/c compressor. My Haynes manual says to remove the alternator, you must first remove the compressor. That involves going through the right side wheel well. I just want to replace the connector on the back side of it. Can that be reached through the wheel well opening? I'm sure some of you have done this. Please tell me it's not as impossible as it looks.

It should be reachable with a swivel and some extensions from the battery side of the engine. Remove airbox, maybe a coolant line. Same process as getting to the top alternator bolt.

Does your problem with the light have any connection with my battery symbol
on the dash coming on once in a while?

My alternator charging rate seems to be normal.

Sounds like you're talking about the starter solenoid. The alternator is on the opposite side of the engine from the battery.

New Mexico, sounds like you have the same problem. The battery symbol is the alternator light.
