So after my 02 x-type 2.5L auto has sat for a week (I was on vaca). I get in the Jag and shift into D, step on the gas and engine revs. Check engine light comes on, along with Gearbox fault. I shift to 4, still nothing, shift into 3, nothing. Then into 2 and the light for 3rd lights up and transmission engages ie I feel the the car lurch forward. I shift back into D and no lights are on, on the gear selector. I am able to drive the Jag but I do not have 4th or OD. I pulled the code and P1780 came up. I clear the code, and I my ride home, check engine comes on again (obviously since I didn't fix anything) but this time the code is P0706.

Any ideas what is going on? I would guess something to do with TCM???

Sounds like the TCM got wet. Same exact thing as what I experienced.

It's a biotch but pull the TCM and check for corrosion.
